Senior UNIX Application Administrator

Job Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

The Senior UNIX system administrator will provide application support for COTS and Mission Partner written software (GOTS) in the NIPRNet and SIPRNet environments on a 24x7x365 basis. This will require a privileged access to information systems, which will have an ability to access and control functions of the information system/network, administration of user accounts, etc. In this role, you can expect to interact on a daily basis with other departments like system integrators, network administrators and the operational team.

Duties & Responsibilities...

  • Provide application support for installation activities to include COTS software installations, application deployment functions, deployment of custom software. Debugging software deployments, resolving installation problems, determining host system requirements for application installation and operation, mapping defined requirements to the application topology, selecting suitable application editions and installing options, resolving installation problems and providing application administration services.

  • Provide application support for implementation activities to include plan, perform and implement installations and upgrades and implement/sustain middleware application components.

  • Provide application support for test activities to include unit/component testing, integration testing, system testing, and acceptance testing.

  • Provide application support for maintenance activities to include improving performance with available tools, checking application for problems and reviewing operations to ensure only valid processes are running, optimizing the functionality of application software, diagnosing and recovering failed applications and maintaining application integrity, performance and availability.

  • Provide application support for monitoring activities to include monitoring performance of and taking proactive measures to prevent service disruption.

  • Provide application support for troubleshooting activities to include identifying what the problem is, gathering more details, eliminating variables, reproducing the problem, development of hypothesis of root cause and attempting a fix based on findings.

  • Provide application support for repair activities to include repairing and documentation of repairs made for future use. Repairs include such things as backing out coding and patching changes, applying patches/code fixes and fixing database errors/issues.

  • Provide support for application security administration to include applying Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) guidelines to application, developing procedures for responding to new threats to systems to ensure confidentiality, integrity and availability, ensuring the rigorous application of information security/information assurance policies, principles and practices in the delivery of application services, streamlining security using managed accounts and controlling access with permissions and roles.

Qualifications

You'll need to have:

  • Active DoD Clearance

  • IAT level II or higher (Security + CE or IAT II equivalent)

  • Previous UNIX system administration experience

  • Understanding of and previous experience with ITIL Processes

Even better if you have:

  • Cyber Security evaluation experience

  • Network/Solution Design Experience

  • Experience with ITSM Remedy IT Ticketing system

  • Strong analytical and reporting skills

  • Good communication skills

  • Good documentation and process skills

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree from accredited college/university or eight years of relevant experience

Certifications Required

IASE (IAT Level II Compliance), CompTIA Security +CE

Certifications Preferred

Clearance Required

Active DoD Clearance required
