Senior Underwriter

The TMHCC Cyber and Professional Lines Group is looking for a self-motivated, analytical, and relationship-focused Senior Underwriter to join their Cyber underwriting team in Chicago. An ideal candidate will possess a passion for methodical underwriting with the ability to evaluate risk, with a focus on customer service & business development.

Position Overview

This is a market-facing production underwriting role, on a close-knit team of highly motivated and productive individuals. You will be responsible for underwriting new and renewal business, as well as developing relationships with our key customers to achieve our team's shared objectives. You will need to be able to work and collaborate as part of a team of underwriters yet, have ability to formulate an independent thought process and be solution oriented. You should have a willingness to speak up and promote positive change, be goal driven, and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.

Performance Objectives

  • Production
  • Achieve your individual premium and productions targets which include:
  • Management and underwriting of your renewal book, achieving a target renewal retention ratio and servicing your renewals throughout the year.

  • New business premium goals, quote and workflow management targets.

  • Marketing & Relationship Development

  • In this role you will be responsible for proactively fostering and developing positive relationships with key customers.
  • Profitability and Compliance
  • Profitability is a pillar in our corporate objectives, we strongly believe that you will develop a profitable book of business if you are disciplined and consciously operate within your granted underwriting authority, within the parameters of the underwriting guidelines, and follow direction given by compliance.

  • Underwriting Expertise

Experience & Education

  • 4-year BA/BS
  • 2-3 years' experience underwriting Cyber/Tech E&O
  • Experience with Microsoft suite of products

Travel Expectations

  • While future travel expectations are uncertain at the moment, it's possible you may travel up to 10% of the time both locally and out of state.

Responsibilities Write and retain a profitable book of business through solid risk analysis, pricing and servicing. Maintain compliance with state filings and adhere to corporate underwriting and pricing guidelines. Operate within written authority grant and make referrals to Nonprofit and Home Office Underwriting as required. Collaborate closely with Nonprofit team. Keep peers and Nonprofit Management informed of all issues and activity. In collaboration with Nonprofit Management, develop and implement a business plan for the assigned agents and geographic area and share accountability with team in meeting goals. Coach agents on underwriting appetite and protocols in conjunction with corporate training guidelines. Collaborate with the Nonprofit and Regional teams to develop, manage and maintain outside client relationships which will include traveling in the territory to meet with agents, producers and nonprofit associations or organizations. Actively plan and participate in industry events as required such as but not limited to agency or association conventions. Provide professional, timely and courteous communication and service to external clients and cross-departmental staff to successfully resolve issues pertaining to policyholders and agents. Provide pertinent information and guidance to support staff required to process coverage requests in accordance with service guidelines. Collaborate with support team on reports and update databases as required. Assist in gathering and communicating competitive information. Qualifications Required: * 10 years of commercial lines property and casualty experience * Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university * Demonstrated experience with and expert technical knowledge of characteristic exposures of nonprofit organizations * Technical command of underwriting of liability, professional, property, automobile, and umbrella exposures of nonprofit organizations * Ability to interpret and analyze information so as to make an informed risk selections and pricing decisions * Ability to participate in and contribute to Nonprofit business planning * Respect for confidential information * Excellent organizational and time management skills * Enjoyment of being paart of a team of like-minded nonprofit insurance professionals * Ability to travel within the assigned territory and to the Home Office as required Preferred: * CPCU or CIC designation What We Offer: AmTrust Financial Services offers a competitive compensation package and excellent career advancement opportunities.
