Successful candidates should be able to:
Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate transportation engineering work.
Mentor and supervise the work of less experienced engineers and/or technical support personnel.
Conceptualize the initial design approach for major phases of large roadway projects.
Perform various aspects of roadway design projects including geometric design, right-of-way plans, storm drainage design, utilities, signing and marking, and erosion control design.
Design and produce engineering drawings based on calculations.
Check, interpret and revise engineering drawings.
Prepare and review engineering reports, plans, specifications, contract documents and estimates for major projects.
Conceive, plan and conduct research in complex problem areas.
Resolve a variety of complex problems (e.g., conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, difficult coordination requirements).
Supervise and observe the design and on-going progress of a project, including the coordination of the project with city, state and county officials and other outside agencies.
Coordinate projects with clients, contractors, outside consultants and firm staff.
Collaborate with project team members, client representatives, review agencies and others as appropriate to project.
Participate in contract bidding and administration if needed.
Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology and eight (8) years of experience in the transportation industry required, preferably in Georgia.
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Georgia, or ability to obtain within six months of start date.
Current roadway design experience with an engineering firm serving local DOT client. May be required to have additional experience for some assignments.
Experience with Georgia Department of Transportation systems, policies, and procedures is preferred.
Demonstrated working knowledge of software systems - Microstation, InRoads (and/or OpenRoads), Microsoft Office - is required.
Knowledge of standard operations, policies and procedures of a firm, preferably within the A/E industry.
Advanced knowledge of the practical application of engineering principles, practices and techniques.
Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures, including ability to operate office equipment such as personal computers, calculators, and copiers.
Skill in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
Strong attention to detail.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to build and maintain excellent interpersonal relationships.
Ability to work independently on multiple tasks without immediate and constant supervision.
