The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Transportation Engineer to be Roadway Manager for a large Highway Design Build Project in our Transportation-Infrastructure Practice.

This position would be responsible for coordinating design, and delivering plans of transportation projects for CDOT. Responsibilities will be to market and develop relationships with other governmental agency clients as well as assisting RS&H to help build the transportation engineering practice in Colorado. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Design/Build in addition to traditional work and works well with clients, engineers, and sub-consultants to ensure that their needs are met. Additional responsibilities include: serving as Project Manager for design-related projects, providing oversight and mentoring to our design associates, implementing quality programs for your projects and performing marketing efforts to fulfill the firm's strategic objectives for the transportation practice.


  • Bachelor's or Master's of Engineering degree from an accredited university

  • 8+ years of work experience within the field of highway design and transportation engineering

  • Experienced with Design/Build transportation projects

  • Complex interchange design experience is a plus

  • Good communication and relationship skills essential.

  • Expertise in transportation project implementation and business acumen in the successful delivery of projects

  • Previous experience as a project manager or as a senior member of a Program Management team is a plus

  • Must have professional registration (PE) within the field of engineering with the ability to obtain a Colorado PE within 6 months

  • Working knowledge of Highway Design programs (Bentley products)

  • Experience as a leader of the profession of engineering within the community

  • Ability to manage multiple professional projects, as well as, design teams, staff, and clients

  • Experienced with business development

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive experience managing highway and roadway design, schematic design, and/or projects in Colorado

  • Recent experience with and knowledge of CDOT policies and procedures

In this role: you will be involved in a team engaged at a national level leading the next generation of drainage design software and workflows in our technical community. You will be engaged in engineering drainage designs, hydraulic and hydrologic systems modeling, and plan production. You will review construction details, as well as erosion control drawings. Perform quantity calculations and produce/check engineering analytical data and related information to assure the design and any technical reports are accurate. Deliver critical design components regarding project scope, and experience with design-build highway and rail projects is highly desirable. Responsibilities: * Independently develops and/or supervises the creation of engineering products that meet customer quality requirements. This includes defining the problem, establishing the work scope, preparing the budget and schedule, planning the work, providing technical direction, and reporting the work status. * Typical products may include detailed calculations, drawings, procurement documents, design and installation packages, proposal evaluations, technical reports, and detailed analyses. * Provides support for other engineering activities as required. May supervise one or more subordinates and provide input regarding performance. * May be assigned to a project or organizational team, or as a lead engineer for a specific discipline on a small to intermediate-size project. * Provides input and technical guidance to CAD Designer/Drafters, Designers, and lower-level Engineers working on the same project. Qualifications: * 4-year degree in Engineering (or related field) * 8 to 15 years or more of related work experience with road & highway drainage design. * Experience in design-build projects on highway and rail projects. We are looking for qualified Senior Engineers that have leadership experience managing national-design projects. (this role only manages projects, not people) * Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate is required. * Proficiency in utilizing CAD and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering is required. * Combination of experience with hydraulic modeling programs of HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HY-8, Bentley InRoads Storm & Sanitary, Bentley StormCAD, Aquaveo Watershed Modeling System (WMS), NRCS WinTR-55, Bentley FlowMaster, FHWA Hydraulic Toolbox, EPA Storm Water Management Model (SWMM and variants of it), and ESRI ArcGIS is essential. * High-level proficiency with a combination of Bentley OpenRoads Designer, Power InRoads SS4, and StormCAD is highly desirable. _ Ready for action?
