Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Office Chief, a Supervising Transportation Engineer, the Senior Transportation Electrical Engineer (STEE) as the TMS Corridor Manager, manages the operation and development of a variety of highway and transportation management systems (TMS) I intelligent transportation systems (ITS) electrical installations and related systems including traffic control devices such as ramp meters and traffic signals. The STEE verifies that TMS elements are configured and operated with optimum efficiency. The STEE is also expected to be a liaison for Caltrans District 4 Traffic Operations and partner with appropriate local agencies.

You must be on the Caltrans examination list to be eligible for this position. Eligibility for hire is determined by your score on the exam.

Working Conditions

Position located in Oakland Alameda County.

While at base of operation, employees will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial lighting. However, due to periodic problems with the heating and air conditioning, the building temperature may fluctuate.

Occasional travel to the field will be required as necessary to provide technical direction to staff as to how to configure or troubleshoot various TMS/ITS elements. Employees will be exposed to walking on varied terrain and in various climates. Incumbents must possess a valid Driver's License and always maintain the license in good standing.

New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
