Salary range is $28.85/hour to $67.31/hour, with a midpoint of $45.67/hour. New hires typically receive between minimum and midpoint, however, we may go slightly higher based on experience, internal equity and market.

This position will be primarily working on the East Side, reporting to our Bellevue OMF.

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Under minimal supervision, performs corrective maintenance along with other required tasks on electronic devices associated with systems such as Security (Camera, Emergency Phones), Fare Collection (Ticket Vending Machines, Smart Card Readers), Heavy Rail Train (Security Systems, Wi-Fi, Automated Passenger Counters), Passenger Information (Variable Message Signs, Public Address), and others. The equipment is located at heavy rail and light rail stations and transit centers throughout the region. Frequent driving and local travel is required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The following duties are a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

  • Demonstrates elevated knowledge and understanding on at least two of the system groups listed: Security, Fare Collection, and PIMs systems.

  • Provides tier two support to technicians for advanced system troubleshooting and repair. Ability to provide major repairs on systems when required. Assists with managing major system upgrades and hardware changes. Provides tier one networking support and coordination.

  • Self-motivated and demonstrates ability to test, troubleshoot, calibrate, repair, overhaul and perform corrective maintenance on all Transit System electronic and electro-mechanical devices, with minimal supervision. These devices include cameras, SIP devices, infrared counters, digital signage, smart card readers, coin an bill validators, credit card readers, PIN pads, networking devices, data processors, thermal printers, touch screens, and power supplies.

  • Evaluates the functionality and condition of back-end support systems and field equipment. Services, troubleshoots, repairs, maintains, designs, and installs support systems.

  • Utilizes proprietary systems software and other tools to assist with problem analysis for repair, maintenance, and configuration of equipment.

  • Uses hand tools, power tools, and specialized system specific diagnostic equipment appropriate for installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic or electro-mechanical devices.

  • Identify and procure necessary tools, supplies, and assets to carry out duties and ensure operational needs are met.

  • Utilizes specialized system monitoring equipment and diagnostic tools to locate and correct faults within the system and ensure compliance with manufacturer requirements. Runs reports and forecasts potential system issues.

  • Acts as a mentor for other field technicians. Provides on the job training and new employee training for internal personnel and outside vendors.

  • Demonstrates team principles and the ability to hold self and others accountable to team operational standards. Supports operation's development while being collaborative with other teams and leads in planning future decisions.

  • Maintains quality assurance and control standards on systems. Maintains station and system device documentation. Enters data into asset management system and ensures accuracy of data in accordance with Sound Transit requirements.

  • Influencer in providing improvements in day-to-day operations, decreasing response times, streamlining work processes, improving systems performance and working collaboratively with a sense of urgency to provide quality customer service to internal and external entities.

  • Oversees the work of contracted vendors performing installation work, ensuring standards in connectivity, quality and workmanship are met. Guides and assists personnel and/or performs Technician responsibilities.

  • Assists engineering and installation teams with installing new equipment and project handover documentation ensuring a completed delivery in accordance with strict timelines. Provides knowledge in design/build scenarios to help deliver projects that meet our standards and can be maintained efficiently.

  • Attends and participates in meetings and complies with assigned training. Maintains awareness of new trends and developments in the fields related to area of assignment. Ensures accountability and compliance with all current and applicable state and federal laws, Agency policies and procedures, rules and regulations.

  • Champions and models Sound Transit's core values and demonstrates values-based behaviors in everyday interactions across the agency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree and graduation from Technical/Trade School in Electronics or Electronic Communication Systems, or closely related field and four years of experience performing installation, maintenance, and repair work of electronic or electro-mechanical devices and training others on electronic or electro-mechanical devices or working with Security, Fare Collection, or PIMs systems. OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Licenses or Certifications:

  • Valid state driver's license. Position is responsible for traveling with equipment, tools, ladders, and other items to be able to troubleshoot, maintain, repair, clean and stock vending machines, cameras, door access controls, emergency phones, wayside validators, panic buttons, heavy rail train parts, SOC equipment, communication room equipment, PIMS equipment, PA equipment, and other.

  • Modern office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and statistical databases.

  • Basic networking principals and troubleshooting.

  • Safe use of hand and power tools.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in a field or remote work environment.

  • Position is responsible for being in the field to troubleshoot and fix faults and perform preventive maintenance; may be subject to bending, climbing, crawling, hearing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, repetitive motion, sitting, standing, talking, seeing, walking and carrying and lifting up to 50 pounds.

  • Positions working in field may occasionally be exposed to dangerous machinery, extreme weather conditions, physical harm, hazardous chemicals, and/or extreme noise.
