Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Coral Gables operates under a commission/manager form of government and is well known for its active and involved citizenry. The Senior Traffic Engineer is part of a dedicated, talented, and innovative team with responsibility to promote mobility and livability in the City of Coral Gables.

This position includes technical traffic engineering review, analysis and design, and project and program management. The Senior Traffic Engineer reports to and receives general direction from the Assistant Public Works Director for Sustainable Public Infrastructure.

Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.

Professional engineering license in the state of Florida within 6 months of hire or a transportation planning certification.

Seven (7) years of progressive experience in the planning, design and construction of public sector projects, including at least three (3) years with specific transportation planning and or /traffic engineering experience.

A comparable amount of training or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Valid Florida Driver's License.

Job Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Duty hours are 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. Monday thru Friday. Maximum of 29 hours per week. Primarily responsible for traffic enforcement police work through the enforcement of traffic laws and ordinances out in the field. Assists in towing, placement, and set up of equipment such as speed trailers and message boards. Responds to rescue calls as required and renders medical aid and emergency assistance as necessary. Enforces laws and ordinances of the City, County and State. Makes arrests and processes prisoners. Gives depositions and court testimonies. Operates and maintains police vehicles and equipment as required, to include motorized vehicles, firearms, radio transmitters, fire extinguisher, protective equipment, fingerprint equipment and computers. Performs any other police related duties as ordered by the Chief of Police in exigent circumstances. Qualifications: Must be a US citizen and be at least 21 years of age. Must be certified in the State of Florida as a Police Officer. High school or equivalent with completion of 54 college credits. or three (3) years of prior full-time continuous military service or three (3) years of prior full-time employment as a police officer Ability to supervise the work of others in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.
