The Kimberly-Clark Product Safety group is seeking a senior toxicologist to support the human health safety assessment of consumer, cosmetic and medical device products, with an emphasis on adult and feminine care Class I medical devices. The incumbent will conduct product safety and health risk assessment of products and components through all phases of development, commercialization and post-market surveillance. This position will be located in Neenah, Wisconsin with options to sit in Minneapolis, MN or Chicago, IL.
The incumbent will be responsible for guiding characterization of raw materials and developing human health hazard identification, exposure characterization, safety risk assessment and product safety guidance to enable and meet new product development milestones, design hazard and failure mode analysis, design control, post-market surveillance and provide product stewardship guidance to support Kimberly-Clark's consumer product and medical device businesses.
The incumbent will contribute to the design, development, planning and execution of continuous improvement projects in support of Kimberly-Clark consumer products safety, quality and effectiveness substantiation.
Document, author and disseminate human health safety (risk) assessments within the medical device framework, taking into consideration identified hazard, user or patient exposure according to intended product use or foreseeable misuse. The incumbent will represent Product Safety to internal business customers on multifunctional product development, life-cycle maximization, and post-market support teams.
Contribute to and effectively communicate product safety guidance and regulatory toxicology compliance information, safety point-of-view papers and human health risk assessments to internal and/or external technical experts as well as functional and business unit leaders and management. This may include representing Kimberly-Clark in trade association groups.
Lead and/or manage the design, monitoring and interpretation of chemical characterization analyses, in vitro and in vivo toxicology, biocompatibility conducted under applicable ISO standards, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and when applicable, clinical studies conducted under Good Clinical Practices (GCP).
Conduct her or himself in accordance with expected Kimberly-Clark leadership behaviors and corporate policies and procedures with an expectation to maintain and enhance their technical, professional, leadership and communication skills through professional development and participation in scientific conferences and meetings, publication of appropriate work in peer-reviewed journals and other aspects of technical and leadership development.
Degree in toxicology, biomedical or related field of relevant product safety experience in the design, development, regulatory clearance/approval and maintenance of medical devices in the US and global markets;
Bachelor's degree with 5-7+ years of experience, or
Master's degree with 3-5+ years of relevant experience, or
PhD, MD, DVM with 0-2+ years of relevant experience
Knowledge of industry, scientific safety and risk assessment practices, principles and procedures. Knowledge and understanding of toxicological testing.
Proficient knowledge in regulatory science, risk assessment practices and national/international quality management system requirements (e.g. ISO, USFDA, CPSC,) associated with the development, commercialization and manufacture of Class I medical devices, cosmetics, and consumer products.
Strong interpersonal communication and technical writing skills with demonstrated proficiency working effectively with technical staff from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Must be an effective communicator in oral and written correspondences as well as presentation formats.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and independently manage multiple tasks in a cross-functional business, academic or professional setting.
Certification by the American Board of Toxicology (DABT) or other equivalent health science or medical professional certification.
Demonstrated proficiency working within SAP database environments and Microsoft programs.
Ability to travel up to 20% (domestic and international).
