Sr. Test Technician Drivetrain Test

HYG is looking for an energetic individual who will have a positive influence on the organization and the Drivetrain Test Team. This position plays an important role in validating new forklifts. Drivetrain development at HYG's Counterbalance Development Center typically includes in-truck driving and jury evaluations, truck and assembly performance measures, as well as high cycle durability tests at the component or assembly levels. This position works directly with a test engineer, and frequently interacts with design staff as well, to ensure we deliver quality lift trucks that meet customer requirements and acceptance. Responsibilities:

  • In-truck and bench test per company methods and national/international standards

  • Pre-test measures, build, and documentation of drive axle, transmission, and/or brake test assemblies

  • Fabrication, installation, monitoring, and removal of high cycle test stands and test assemblies

  • Post-test teardown inspection, measures, photos, and documentation

  • Participate in build of Proof-of-Concept assemblies and vehicles

  • Perform light fabrication (e.g. sheet metal, welding, machining, etc.)

  • Install, configure, and operate various instrumentation to simultaneously record temperature, speed, torque, force, pressure, displacement, and voltage/current

  • Review and communicate data and test results through both verbal and written reports

  • Focus on quality, with attention to detail

  • Periodic oil sampling of lift truck fluids, and high cycle test assemblies

Qualifications:

  • Associate of Applied Science Degree or equivalent

  • Hands-on demonstrated ability in automotive or heavy machinery mechanics

  • Basic experience with machining, fabrication, and manufacturing methods and tolerances

  • Basic experience interpreting drawings of parts, weldments, hydraulics, and electrical schematics

  • Basic computer skills including proficiency using Microsoft Office suite of tools

  • Experience with data acquisition

  • Ability to operate lift trucks

  • Ability to meet physical demands of working on equipment (lifting, pulling, bending, and reaching)

Preferred:

  • Advanced experience in machining, fabrication, and manufacturing methods and tolerances

  • Advanced interpreting drawings of parts, weldments, hydraulics, and electrical schematics

  • Experience as a forklift service technician

  • Experience with drive axles, transmissions, brake systems, and hydraulics

  • Ability to troubleshoot gas, LPG, and diesel engine systems

  • Experience in a product development setting running tests, compiling data, and completing electronic documentation

  • Experience with sensor selection and data acquisition systems

  • Familiarity with Somat eDAQ

This individual interacts with all aspects of the organization, including design, test, marketing, manufacturing, and procurement, to ensure we deliver quality lift trucks that meet customer requirements and acceptance. Responsibilities: * Prepare and modify lift trucks and components to execute test plans. * Troubleshoot, inspect, and provide recommendations based on test outcomes. * Identify and resolve development issues working closely with Test and Design Engineers. * Communication of data analysis and test results through both verbal and written reports. * Take a lead role in Identifying and implementing processes that improve testing efficiency and overall quality of validation testing. * Design and build test stands in support of test objectives. * Develop and/or update engineering methods ensuring compliance with codes and standards while complying with ISO9000 certification. Qualifications: * Associate of Applied Science Degree * Welding and Fabrication experience * Experience interpreting engineering drawings (components, weldments, hydraulic and electrical schematics). * Practical understanding of machining practices, manufacturing methods and tolerances. * Ability to operate lift trucks * Ability to work with limited supervision * Extremely detail oriented Preferred: * Capable of using Microsoft Office suite of tools, especially Excel. * Experience with sensor selection and data acquisition systems such as SOMAT EDAQ, Vector CANalyzer including knowledge of vehicle CAN communication. * Hands-on demonstrated abilities in fabrication, machining, welding, general mechanical and electrical repair including troubleshooting issues of vehicles. * Basic understanding of DC/AC electrical circuits.
