Test Engineers are a core component of the program team serving as the technical authority for developmental test planning and execution while working to deliver best in class product. Test Engineers work closely with other Engineers, Program Managers, Quality Engineers, external partners, and the customers to ensure Wilcox stays on the leading edge of technology and innovation while ensuring the team is delivering a product that our customer can trust his/her life with.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, design, and execution of complex test programs, ensuring compliance with technical requirements and industry standards.
- Develop and refine strategic test frameworks, methodologies, and automation solutions to improve efficiency and test coverage.
- Serve as a technical authority for test strategies, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis, contributing to the resolution of complex issues.
- Mentor and guide junior and mid-level test engineers, fostering skill development and best practices in test engineering.
- Provides constructive technical feedback to team members.
- Demonstrates the ability to receive and act on constructive feedback.
- Fosters a collaborative environment, helping to raise the technical skill of the team.
- Demonstrates interpersonal tact when working with others.
- Understands that it is critical to act as a united team during external meetings and demonstrates that understanding.
- Drive test automation initiatives, ensuring effective and scalable solutions for verification and validation.
- Design and implement system- and subsystem-level test plans, test cases, and test scripts to ensure robust verification of product performance.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define test requirements, success criteria, and resource allocation for effective DT&E execution.
- Review and approve test procedures, test reports, and validation plans, ensuring technical accuracy and completeness.
- Contribute to trade studies and risk assessments, evaluating testing methodologies, tools, and strategies to optimize validation efforts.
- Participate in design reviews, providing critical feedback based on test findings to improve product performance and reliability.
- Support government and regulatory compliance efforts, ensuring adherence to military and industry testing standards.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts, analyzing test failures, performing root cause analysis, and driving corrective actions.
- Prepare and present test results to senior management, program teams, and external customers.
- Assists in the preparation of project schedules for test engineering tasks, ensuring efficient use of time and budget.
- Tracks project progress for test engineering tasks, regularly prepares reports, and ensures that deadlines are met.
- Stays up to date with the latest test engineering trends, tools, and technologies, and incorporates them into the team's design and development processes with management support.
- Perform other duties as necessary to support business and engineering objectives.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
- 6+ years of experience in test engineering, verification, and validation, or a related field.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Deep expertise in DT&E methodologies, including requirements-based testing, failure analysis, and defect management.
- Experience designing and executing system-level tests, including environmental, functional, and performance testing.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex issues, perform root cause analysis, and drive resolution in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Experience with test management and defect tracking tools, such as JIRA, TestRail, or equivalent.
- Ability to work independently while also mentoring and guiding test engineering teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Microsoft 365, Teams).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing technical reports and presentations.
Preferred Skills/Abilities:
- Master's degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience, education, or certification(s).
- Experience with military standards, such as MIL-STD-461 and MIL-STD-810 for environmental and EMI/EMC testing.
- Hands-on experience with laser systems, night vision/imaging systems, or target location systems.
- Proficiency in test automation frameworks and scripting languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW).
- Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools.
- Experience with U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) contracts and testing requirements.
Physical Requirements:
- Regular on-site attendance is a necessary function of this position.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally, for handling parts and prototypes.
