Position Summary

Energizer's R&D Auto Care team is seeking an experienced primary packaging engineer to develop and/or evaluate new containers and application technologies for new or existing auto care products. The position, based in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio, is a part of Energizer's Research and Development Team. Energizer is a customer-focused, innovation-oriented, fast growing consumer packaged goods company. Energizer is passionate about making time in the car more enjoyable with market-leading brands of car air fresheners, cleaning, performance, and air conditioning products.

Accountabilities

The position supports existing automotive brands including Armor All, Eagle One, STP, Lexol, and A/C Pro by providing technical engineering support of product storage and application. Product support includes liquids, aerosols, refrigerants and applicators such as triggers and pens. Specific accountabilities are listed below.

  • Lead container and applicator development for new products, working with internal cross functional team members, and provide technical direction for design agencies and suppliers to deliver innovative new packaging and products

  • Define and conduct container development testing to ensure readiness for production, distribution, customer and consumer fit for use

  • Design and execute package commissioning and qualifications for parts with suppliers and on packing lines in production plants

  • Contribute innovative ideas leading to the development and application of new container technologies and solving consumer application related challenges

  • Plan, Execute, Analyze and summarize plant trials working closely with Manufacturing, engineering, and production site technical resources

  • Maintain accurate, complete and detailed records including performance-based packaging specifications

  • Support package technical support organization as needed to resolve packaging supply chain or production technical issues

  • Mentor others and provide technical and project leadership, and will be expected to participate in establishing Intellectual Property related to assigned programs.

  • Practice proper safety procedures, provide leadership to others in key result areas, and participate in continuous improvement activities, serving as a team member as required.

  • May supervise and develop non-exempt colleagues and provide annual appraisals of their performance and developmental feedback

  • Hands on bench scale product testing

Required Skills and Experience

Bachelor of Science in Packaging Technology, Material Science, or Mchanical/Chemical Engineering and 5+ years experience with developing and qualifying plastic containers and applicators or 15+ years of related industry experience

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsot Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint.

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred Skills and Experience

Experienced preferred in consumer product containers and application (liquids, aerosols, triggers) as well as container development process and testing from concept to implementation

Working Relationships & Environment

Working Relationships

  • Reports to R&D Manager. Key relationships will include R&D team, Marketing, Procurement External Suppliers, and Operations groups.

Work Environment

  • Travel, including international, up to 25% is required. The employee will also be expected to participate in occasional teleconference meetings with global colleagues in different time zones.

Position Summary As a Staff Engineer - Global Auto Care R&D, you will work with a team of scientists and technologists to deliver and maintain a robust pipeline of innovative automotive aftermarket products for this fast paced and exciting business. You will become a technical and formulation expert while working closely with a cross-functional team to launch products. The right candidate for this role is an innovator who takes charge with seeing their ideas through to completion and has hands-on product development and project management experience. Accountabilities * Interact as part of a cross-functional team including marketing, procurement, legal, and external third parties such as global suppliers and contract manufacturers * Develop formulations and evaluate performance of products leveraging internal and external analytical resources. Understand and apply underlying technical understanding of chemical and material interactions. * Characterize new and existing raw materials for product formulations * Project management of development projects, from concept to launch using stage gate process, to deliver against timelines and milestones aligned with the Marketing Cycle Plan and customer requirements. * Analyze and interpret data to meet project targets and objectives, and make recommendations that drive efficiency and manage risk. Prepare and present project reports. * Work with marketing, sales, and regulatory in developing competitive claims and product demonstrations * Provide leadership in building world-class testing capabilities for product benchmarking, performance evaluation, and product demonstration * Mentor others and provide technical program leadership * Define and use SOPs, best practices, experimental designs and test methods to ensure a robust and rigorous development process * Develop and maintain professional relationships with suppliers, technical experts, etc. Identify and drive capability and process improvements to enable more efficient product development. * Participate in establishing Intellectual Property related to assigned programs * Provide guidance to air freshener teams as required Required Skills and Experience * BS/BA (4 year undergraduate) degree and at least 10 years of consumer product formulation experience OR MS/PhD and at least 5 years of consumer product formulation experience * Expertise in formulation chemistry, raw materials, surfactants, and the ability to sue this knowledge to develop innovative, cost effective products * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills * Excellent organization skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and effectively. * Capable of working cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
