As part of the Program Support and IT Asser Management Team and reporting to the PSITAM Team Lead, the Sr Technical Writer will be responsible for creating technical documents, standard operating procedures, and deployment-focused manuals. The Sr Technical Writer will serve as a technical communicator, focusing on developing, gathering, and disseminating technical information among customers, engineers, and senior management. The candidate must be proficient at explaining complex information in a clear and concise manner, and working with engineering and operations staff to ensure the accuracy of product descriptions. They must also demonstrate proficiency in technical editing of documentation and the preparation of formal written materials for customer delivery. The Sr Technical Writer also will provide coaching and mentoring to mid-level Technical Writers on efficiencies in their job duties.
Creates operational documentation for organizational policies, processes and procedures related to management of critical systems, intra and inter-team coordination.
Supports the assessment, development and documentation of Process Architecture and Procedural workflows across technical teams and relevant technical capabilities
Supports organization- and enterprise-wide content management systems, including Wikis, Help files and Frequently Asked Questions, and SharePoint.
Takes ownership of organizational documentation standards including program management, reporting, practices and procedures, and technical documentation.
Conducts research on technical topics and participates in discussions with technical specialists.
Recommends, evaluates, and helps pilot new technologies to improve the organizations ability to collaborate and support the enterprise.
Writes, edits, reviews & organizes all technical written materials including organization of key sections, tables, exhibits, and attachments, providing graphic/layout assistance to help ensure that a quality work product is produced.
Analyzes enterprise processes and procedures for potential recommendations of improvements.
Participates in efforts to increase management participation through visualization and automated metrics.
Works closely with engineers and technical team leads to document system launches and service transitions to help ensure that critical schedules are maintained.
Help create presentations and format and prepare documents for executive leadership.
Performs related duties as assigned or requested.
Education and Certifications
BS/BA in related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Active Secret Clearance.
ITIL v3 Foundation (Required within 90 days of hire)
Knowledge and Experience
8+ years of technical writing experience related to process engineering in IT organizations including good understanding of Federal government processes.
10+ years of exceptional proficiency in writing and editing skills.
10+ years experience with Word Processing and Presentation programs, such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Publisher.
Understanding of advanced editing tools within Word Processing and Presentation Programs.
Ability to understand complex information and communicate the information to people with diverse technical backgrounds.
Ability to prioritize requests, set expectations for task completion, and provide task status.
Meticulous attention to detail and effective professional correspondence.
Self-sufficient and resourceful, and able to work independently and take ownership of work products.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

1-3 years of experience working in large secure Federal Government environments preferred.
