Job Description:

As a Senior Technical Writer for AVEVA, you may own documentation duties for a specific product area or work as part of a pool of writers supporting cloud and related products. Your role is to create and curate content that best serves our customers, help define and enforce processes and standards, and drive the evolution of technical content offerings with minimal supervision and guidance.

To succeed in this role, you must be naturally curious and collaborative and enjoy clearly explaining complex enterprise software products.

Responsibilities:

  • Translate requirements and manage project deliverable scope, milestones, and deadlines in alignment with management objectives

  • Work with markdown files in GitHub to source and manage content for product updates

  • Interview SMEs and convert feedback into content appropriate for the target audience

  • Participate in agile activities, including daily standup, sprint planning, and sprint review meetings to track project status and gather information for documentation

  • Ensure documentation adheres to internal quality standards and guidelines

  • Take ownership of documentation projects and escalate issues when necessary

  • Collaborate with engineering and customer support resources to triage and resolve documentation work items

  • Review and copyedit others' content to ensure document quality

  • Communicate project obstacles and roadblocks to team leads

  • Identify appropriate product stakeholders to facilitate and ensure proper signoff and approval

  • Assist in the development and enforcement of documentation standards

  • Manage multistage projects with assistance from managers and peer writers

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and minimum 5 years' experience as a Technical Writer

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficient in English grammar and writing principles

  • Experience working within an agile development methodology

  • Proven track record of owning documentation projects from inception through delivery, with ability to coordinate complex writing projects over multiple milestones and features

  • Proactive mindset, taking initiative to root out and assimilate information and intuitively formulate next steps toward delivery

  • Strong curiosity and desire to learn about technology

  • Experience developing and enforcing documentation standards

  • Ability to install and operate various software products

  • Focus and attention to detail, and the knowledge of when and how to balance them against larger business requirements

  • Ability to proactively recruit and interview SMEs to extract information

  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects

Desirable skills:

  • Experience writing content for cloud products

  • Experience mentoring other Technical Writers

  • GitHub experience, including working with branches and repositories, creating pull requests, and resolving merge conflicts

  • Experience editing or writing API content

  • Experience with video production software and sustainable workflow processes

  • Scripting and stylesheet development
