Senior Technical Product Manager - Global Platform Team

Groupon's Global Platform is the front door to one of the most popular mobile services in the world. It services a multitude of clients including phones, tablets, browsers and is even integrated into a number of 3rd party systems around the world. In addition to the client-facing duties, the position also has responsibilities for Groupon's aggregated API, which works with a diverse array of lower-tier systems collecting and connecting the data and services necessary to fulfill the requests of our clients. This privileged integration point exposes our team members to a wide variety of challenges from the deep technical implementations of the scalable core platform to the user-visible features and functionality available to our customers.

Our team's responsibilities include driving technical platform integration to ensure a single global platform serving Groupon customers in North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. The team also defines technical standards, tools and policies to help all engineering teams build and monitor highly available services to meet growing business needs. As a Technical Product Manager on the API & Platform Integration product team, you will be a technical product owner of Groupon's Service Oriented Architecture, ensuring hundreds of services work together happily, integrate well with upstream and downstream clients and meet or exceed the SLA.

The ideal candidate has a track record for driving deeply technical solutions at large scales and with high customer impact. This leader must be able to influence across multiple company organizations, be an exceptionally strong analytical thinker and have a history of delivering results. As a key member of an elite team, your efforts will make a direct impact on the experiences of millions of customers as well as establish the Groupon service platform as a standard of world-class engineering.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Ensuring services integrate into the overall platform in a coherent and performant way, with an eye towards a single platform serving all geographies

  • Driving the evolution of the API and overall SOA platform within larger architecture, product design and planning processes

  • Work with highly talented teams to execute the API and platform integration roadmap

  • Working deeply with other product and engineering teams to generate innovative solutions to technical and product conundrums

  • Developing and executing detailed technical and operational plans for our large ecommerce platform to meet the high availability demands

  • Defining service classification policies and necessary controls required to protect customer data and collaborating with all engineering teams to implement and track compliance with these policies

  • Partner with engineers and product managers from across the company to clarify and focus platform integration requirements and act as key knowledge owner on how to integrate products into the Groupon platform


  • 5-7+ years of related experience at a consumer e-/m-commerce company

  • Strong analytical, detail oriented, problem solving, communication and project management skills

  • Extremely high judgment and structured thinking to ensure solutions optimize for the highest opportunity areas

  • Understanding of how to build scalable distributed systems.

  • Experience working with integration systems powering large mobile and web products

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience

As part of our work in the EDPA team, we work side by side with world-class data engineering and product development teams to build self-service data science, data engineering, and product analytics products and tools. The ideal candidate for the Data Management, Senior Technical Product Manager role will be an experienced technical lead for data management initiatives who can strategize with cross-functional stakeholders, communicate effectively, and drive technical decision-making. This is a multi-faceted role in a data-driven environment so flexibility, technical skills, a strong work ethic, and strong communication are a must. You must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. Entrepreneurial self-starter. You have the ability to lead and develop a new operation from the ground up. This means you are not only able to develop and drive high-level strategic initiatives, but can also roll up your sleeves, dig in and help drive change. As a senior TPM you take large, complex projects and break them down into manageable pieces, help engineering leaders and data governance TPMs develop functional specifications, then deliver programs in a successful and timely manner is definitely expected. Maturity, judgment, negotiation skills, ability to influence, analytical talent and leadership are key factors to success in this role. Some of the things you'll be doing include … * Establish and maintain the value proposition, strategy, and associated roadmap for a robust Master Data Management program * Collaborate with the senior enterprise data leadership team and work with all aspects of the business and company to develop and drive the MDM strategy. * Enhance MDM practices and processes to deliver the mastered data domains * Serve as subject matter expert and technical point of contact for information management, data management, and data domain expertise * Develop, coordinate and maintain integrated MDM-related project timelines, schedules and communication plans * Strive for the continuous improvement of procedures, tools, and metrics tied to business outcomes for the MDM and Governance team * Support key company programs related to MDM, data alignment, data migration and data quality * Partner with Data Quality and Data Governance teams to ensure accuracy of master data, appropriateness for intended usages and continuous improvement of Data Quality * Evaluate and review new approaches and technologies and their applicability to MDM * Lead the team on MDM-specific activities such as define the cleanse rules, match rules, survivorship, etc. * Ensure teamwork across Data Domain Owners, Data Stewards, Data Scientists, User researchers, business subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and dev and Biz Tech partners * Provide partnership and influence through organizational change management efforts Who you are… * 6+ years of technical product/program management experience data, governance risk and/or compliance experience * 4+ years of Master Data Management or Information Management experience * 2+ years of using SQL to explore the data and understand the data characteristics * Experience working with Data Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers, Data Engineers, developers, business users, execs, and other product managers as your customers. * Strong technology background and applicable technology skills related to data, master data management, data governance and associated platforms and technologies * Broad level of understanding of surrounding data infrastructure, information systems, and data application architecture standards * Strong technical, analytical, problem-solving and storytelling skills * Acute business acumen and understanding of organizational issues and challenges * Experience in leading project teams and streams * Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret complex problems or processes that span multiple business areas, identify and understand requirements, and develop solutions * Passion for using data to inform decision making and using visualization products to tell stories using Telemetry events.
