Aspen Capital is currently in search of a Senior Technical Accountant to join our Accounting team! This position will be responsible for maintaining and supporting schedules and relevant back-ups for accounting treatment of financial instruments. Other primary responsibilities include but are not limited to; preparing the updating financial statements, journal entries for corporate accounting areas, and documenting accounting policies and procedures. Our ideal candidate has an eye for process improvement and enjoys researching technical accounting concepts.

Day to day you will

Be the primary owner of 'corporate' accounting areas (e.g. inter-company, intangibles, impairment analysis, business combinations, equity, etc.):

  • Perform monthly accounting calculations related to financial instruments and record journal entries and prepare monthly reconciliations
  • Perform financial analysis and prepare reporting schedules
  • Establish standard policies and procedures for these accounting areas. Prepare process documentation. Assist in designing and implementing financial system solutions and improvements

Financial Reporting & Consolidation:

  • Review in detail P&L line items to assist variance analysis
  • Assist in preparation of financial statement disclosures and reporting schedules
  • Assist in preparation of monthly management reporting package

Technical Accounting:

  • Research and propose resolutions to accounting issues in accordance with GAAP (as needed);
  • Assist in documenting accounting policies, procedures, and internal controlsr

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting or related field
  • CPA or CPA candidate is preferred but not required
  • 3+ years of progressive public accounting experience with in-charge auditing
  • Solid understanding of audit and attest services with knowledge of FASB regulations and US GAAP
  • Strong month end financial close experience: full cycle, prepare journal entries, prepare balance sheet reconciliations, etc.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced excel
  • Excellent oral and written communications, problem-solving, attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to perform a highly effective detailed self-review
  • Able to handle highly sensitive and confidential information
  • Must be a team player and successfully balance and complete multiple priorities
