The Sr. Team Leader of Competitive Intelligence is responsible for leading a team of Competitive Analysts to collect a wide range of competitive data & research insights. The primary responsibilities in this role are to ensure that our data collection, management, reporting, and analysis are managed with a high degree of accuracy, timeliness, and usability. This leader will be accountable for partnering with our Technology and Enterprise Analytics teams to develop and deliver a data infrastructure capable of supporting routine price collection, processing, reporting, and analysis. This leader will also be accountable for developing dependable data management and business processes that establish competitive data as a credible input into decision making across pricing, promotions, and assortment planning.
Coordinate day-to-day activities of Team Leader, Senior Analysts, and Analysts.
Coach, motivate, train, and mentor direct reports to achieve their goals.
Engage with business partners to improve understanding/reliance on competitive intelligence and drive the connection between competitive insights and strategy.
Develop analytical presentations and communicate them to leadership and other teams.
Gain the full understanding of the business context of competitive intelligence necessary to identify key priorities and allocate resources to deliver the most value for the customer
Collaboration & Relationships
Work with Global and Regional Analytics, Merchandising, Marketing, Operations and Finance Teams to collaborate on development of competitive strategy, competitor intelligence methodologies, and develop and improve reporting and other systems.
Maintain close working relationship with the Global Pricing Analytics Team in support of Category Management.
Regularly update Global Leadership Team on competitive positioning and strategies.
Serve as a resource for Global and Regional Merchandising and Operations Leadership in competitive situations.
Partner with Competitive Response teams to effectively blend competitive insights with action plans
Analytics and Reporting
Coordinate the gathering of retail pricing, assortment and promotion data on competitors in partnership with Analyst team as well as through third-party sources, online and primary research.
Influence the development of technology and analytical tools necessary to support the management and usability of competitive data
Strong understanding of data base infrastructure and management including knowledge of coding languages and tools including R, Python, SQL, and Alteryx
Analyze data to provide competitive pricing index, highlight pricing opportunities and make recommendations for pricing adjustments.
Analyze category data and work to exploit market opportunities to adjust merchandising, pricing or purchasing tactics.
Monitor competitive data for completeness, accuracy, integrity and shifts in competitor pricing tactics and strategies.
Deliver relevant, complete, timely, and accurate reporting on competitive pricing and competitive event impacts.
Monitor new and emerging competitors and collect intelligence on future competitive openings and evaluate the impact of the competitive events on WFM stores.
Evaluate competitive threats and work with purchasing and operations teams to develop appropriate strategies for minimizing the negative impact of competitive threats.
Create in-depth competitor profiles, including current strategies, expansion plans, retail price position, promotions, merchandising, and product gaps.
Regularly visit competitors and identify trends and innovations executed by other retailers, restaurants and specialty retailers.
Stay current with food, retail, market news and natural products trends. Read popular and trade press widely.

Master's degree in Engineering, Economics, Math, Analytical Business Specialty or commensurate retail experience preferred.
10+ years of experience in retail, analysis, competitive pricing and/or merchandizing strategies.
2+ years of experience managing a team.
Experience in the field of retail grocery is a plus.
Enthusiasm for Whole Foods Market products and a strong interest in developing expertise in all product categories, as well as a love of competition and the grocery retail business.
Highly motivated to develop expertise in industry trends and the use of data and analytics to recommend better competitive positioning.
Self-motivated, innovative thinker, willing to work in an evolving role that presents vast opportunities for teamwork and collaboration.
Strong attention to detail, and excellent organization and time management skills.
Proficient in a wide range of analytical, quantitative, and statistical techniques and tools to derive insights from large, complex data environments.
Experience with Microsoft office products; must have advanced proficiency in Excel and have the ability to create and run complex and dynamic reporting.
Ability to present ideas, conclusions and recommendations with clarity. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Solid public speaking skills; able to present ideas to diverse audiences.
Ability to travel up to 25%.
