Your Role at Cabot
Cabot Corporation, a Fortune 1000, global specialty chemicals company, is seeking a Senior Tax Counsel to join the Tax organization at the Boston, MA headquarters location. This is a highly visible, key position within the tax team responsible for providing domestic and international tax research and planning for Cabot and its subsidiaries with the objective of minimizing the company's global tax liability and supporting other business objectives. The role includes extensive interaction with various Cabot teams and outside consultants. This position will participate in many tax department activities, such as tax planning and structuring, M&A, transfer pricing analysis and support, U.S. and non-U.S. tax audit support, SEC reporting, and tax return compliance support.
This individual will join a collaborative and tenured tax team supportive of work/life balance with a focus on challenging, cutting-edge topics. This role will have 2 reports.
This role is based at the Boston, MA, location, but is eligible to participate in Cabot's current Flexible Working Arrangement (hybrid) program.
How You Will Make an Impact
Lead the development and implementation of sustainable strategies that operate to minimize the company's worldwide effective tax rate
Proactively identify opportunities to improve Cabot's tax structure and help with other business objectives
Conduct in-depth legal research and analysis of tax issues related to transactions, operations, transfer pricing and other areas with global tax consequences
Support tax aspects of M&A projects
Build relationships with senior management and other stakeholders, and thereby be in a position to serve as a trusted business advisor
Provide the department with technical tax analysis in all areas of tax research and planning
Prepare and review complex elements of U.S. tax filings
Monitor and help the company react appropriately to changes in U.S. and non-U.S. tax laws
Collaborate with other tax department personnel to develop and implement audit strategies, prepare supporting memoranda, responses, protests, and related documentation
Oversee and manage relationship with outside tax consultants
Manage and develop direct and indirect reports and lead within the tax group
Support ASC 740 processes and SEC reporting as needed
What You Will Bring to Cabot
14+ years tax experience in relevant areas
Experience preferably within the public accounting industry or publicly traded U.S. based multi-national companies
Law degree with a concentration in tax preferred, but will consider candidates without a legal background
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical material to executives and business managers
In-depth understanding of domestic and international tax concepts
General understanding of tax accounting and its related impact on financial statement
Ability to complete tax modeling and strong understanding of GILTI, BEAT and Pillar 2 concepts
Ability to generate creative planning ideas and to apply technical and analytical skills to them to develop and implement tax minimizing strategies
Professionalism and interpersonal skills necessary to interact with all levels of business units and management
Ability to develop an understanding of global businesses and develop a network of contacts for information about changing business conditions and strategies
CPA may be beneficial, but not required
