Amazon is seeking a Senior Tax Analyst to join its Federal Tax Compliance and Reporting team.

The Amazon tax department is a fast-paced, team-focused, and dynamic environment. This position will focus on Amazon's domestic tax compliance and reporting obligations including preparation of federal income tax filings and the U.S. Federal elements of Amazon's worldwide tax provision.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Preparation and review of federal tax returns and audit-ready work-papers including the US reporting of foreign transactions.

  • Preparation and review of tax adjustments for financial accounting for income taxes and maintenance of deferred tax positions.

  • Manage the analysis and documentation of tax implications of emerging business issues, technical tax positions taken, and integration of such positions into the compliance/reporting process.

  • Drive process improvements and coordinate with the Tax Technology team to facilitate streamlining and automation.

  • Project manage components of the US federal income tax return, including participation in planning for and developing overall return calendar, and coordination of timing and inputs with other tax team members.

  • Research and analyze tax planning ideas to determine impacts for U.S. income tax reporting and the federal elements of the worldwide tax provision.

  • Support IRS income tax audits by preparing responses and appropriate schedules.

  • Liaise closely with members of Finance on accounting policy and members of the Federal Planning team for development of tax policy.

  • Keep up-to-date on tax law and the organizational impact of changes.

  • Train and mentor team members.

  • Support customers in federal planning, controversy, state and local tax reporting, US outbound and provision.

  • Special projects as needed.

Learn more about this agency Responsibilities WHAT DOES A TAX ANALYST DO? A Tax analyst serves as an analyst which plans, coordinates, and conducts analytical studies, and projects. In this role, you will be responsible for performing technical and analytical staff work. You will be required to oversee programs which include strategic compliance program planning, business systems planning, customer account services, taxpayer education and communications, and administrative support. As a Tax Analyst you will: * Develop and interpret guidance on program planning, execution, and evaluation for the compliance, accounts management and/or taxpayer education and communication functions. * Study problems facing operating unit functions or those of particular concern within the organization assigned. * Analyze assigned program areas to discern trends in program delivery and consolidate report data to measure the effectiveness in meeting baselines or the degree to which program plans and achievements support strategic initiatives. * Provide technical guidance on issues, proposals, and activities impacting program operations, and ensure operating units are in alignment with regulatory and administrative provisions and requirements. * Review proposals to alter or modify concepts, processes, or functions for compatibility with program goals and objectives, as well as evaluate new requirements, policies, and modifications for impact on program operations, systems, and resources. * Coordinate site visits to conduct briefings, studies, implement program initiatives, review program effectiveness, and identify additional system or revision in work processes required. * Prepare reports concerning identified issues, explaining program differences and recommending improvements and corrective action for program operations, where differing or competing viewpoints may occur. * Present findings, conclusions, and recommendations as a result of program studies, projects, or reviews conducted and disseminate revised procedures and changes in program operations.
