Our ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and self-starter with a background in sales and use tax and a desire to expand their analytical scope by supporting and improving the data extracted from our brick and mortar, e-commerce and restaurant point of sale systems. A day in the life...

  • Responsible for multiple sales, use, VAT and other miscellaneous tax audits across the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Canada; including data pulls and analytics of sales, expense and fixed asset reports

  • Prepare and review monthly general ledger account reconciliations for various sales, use, B&O, and other miscellaneous taxes

  • Support a co-sourced monthly transaction tax compliance process for the U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada

  • Responsible for the tax configuration and testing of various point of sale systems to ensure accurate tax applications

  • Support product and service taxability by conducting research, drafting various training materials and communications necessary to keep the business abreast of changes

  • Keep abreast of, and provide analysis for, tax law developments and tax planning opportunities to assist with the goal of minimizing the tax burden and maximizing cash flow for the company

  • Perform tax technical research and communicate results and potential action items effectively to management and business stakeholders

  • Provide excellent customer service by supporting sales tax inquiries from around the company including customer service specialists, store support, and other internal departments supporting business activities

  • Engage with a broader group of non-tax personnel within the company, including IT teams in support of sales tax systems

  • Engage with and develop relationships with both internal and external tax resources

You own this if you have...

  • Minimum 3 years of broad indirect tax experience in a multi-state environment required, experience with Puerto Rico and/or Canada a plus

  • Experience in the retail and restaurant industries

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent required (CPA or advanced tax degree a plus)

  • Knowledge of tax software, accounting systems and research sites (including but not limited to Vertex, Oracle, Discoverer and CCH)

  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills required

  • Experience with automation and robotics tools such as Alteryx, UI Path and Tableau software a plus

  • Sound technical research skills and ability to evaluate and communicate the implications of technical issues in verbal and written form required

  • Ability to multitask, work in a fast-paced environment, and prioritize all while meeting deadlines

  • Flexible and curious, with the ability to apply prior experiences to new situations

  • Analytical and detail oriented with outstanding organizational skills

  • Ability to plan, organize, and complete work timely with minimal supervision

  • Have a growth mindset with the desire to perform beyond what is familiar and seek out new experiences

  • Ability to creatively collaborate and find solutions to various tax and business issues

  • Positive and enthusiastic with exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders

POSITION DETAILS We currently have an opening for a Sr. Tax Manager at our Seattle, Washington headquarters office. This position will be a member of the tax team that provides tax planning support to the Company's Timberlands, Real Estate, Energy and Natural Resources businesses, and is responsible for the related tax compliance. This tax team also is accountable for all aspects of transfer pricing, from tax planning and alignment with the businesses, through execution, penalty protection and audits. Additionally, the team is responsible for all domestic and foreign income tax audits. Your role will support all the above tax focus areas, as well as tax research for complex federal and state income tax issues and tax planning on major Company transactions. You will be relied upon to add significant value through creative and thoughtful tax planning, identifying risk and minimizing the Company's tax liability. This position will report to the Tax Director (Timberlands, Real Estate, Energy & Natural Resources Operations). This role will also have extensive access and exposure to our other Tax Directors and the Vice President of Tax. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES * Research and analyze complex tax issues and support implementation of tax law changes into current year filings * Manage international tax projects and tax research, including transfer pricing * Add subject matter expertise in team review of Company's quarterly and year-end tax provisions * Manage or support international and federal income tax audits * Monitor and analyze tax legislation and IRS guidance for potential impact on current tax positions * Identify and recommend tax planning opportunities * Effectively communicate tax issues identified, tax research conclusions and tax planning strategies * Eduacation: B.A. in Accounting or a related field is required. Masters in Taxationand/or J.D. is highly preferred. * Certification: Certified Public Accountant preferred. * Experience: 5-7 years combined public accounting and/or a largemulti-national corporation experience.
