Job Description

The Sr. Tax Accountant will be responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of sales and use tax and excise tax compliance obligations and other duties as assigned.

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Timely and accurately, prepare sales and use tax returns and excise tax return, including payments and filings.

  • Analyze vendor invoices, prepare use tax journal entries, and reconcile sales and use accounts.

  • Maintain technical knowledge of indirect tax through internal and external resources.

  • Perform assigned projects as needed, including maintaining multi-state/multi-subsidiary business registrations, satisfying sales and use tax audit requests.

  • Mitigate audit penalties through strict adherence to state tax regulations and maintain thorough records and documentation, including customer tax certificates.

  • Complete corporate tax returns.

  • Assure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.

  • Conduct research and planning according to applicable tax laws and regulations.

  • Minimize tax liability through sound and informed application of laws and regulations.

  • Regular attendance at the worksite is required.

Position Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong analytical and reasoning skills including ability to research tax issues.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are required.

  • Strong technological skills including proficiency in tax research software, AX or other general ledger systems, and sales and use tax compliance software.

  • Ability to transfer learning, knowledge, and skills to team members.

  • Self-motivated with ability to work both independently and within teams in order to establish and meet deadlines, goals, and objectives.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact and clearly communicate with taxing authorities, external customers, and individuals at all levels within the organization.

  • Must be dependable with a stable work history.

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to maintain stability under pressure and be flexible and willing to modify plans and behavior when necessary.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays.

  • Ability to be a positive representative of the Company both internally and externally.

  • Ability to work with respect and cooperation at all times with fellow employees and customers.

  • Must be committed to working safely at all times.

Experience/Education:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field is required.

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with a public accounting firm or a corporation with significant sales and use tax compliance obligations is preferred.

  • Experience with tax software and general ledger system is required.

  • Petroleum industry experience is preferred.

Travel:

Negligible travel required.
