Our Human Resources department is seeking a Senior Talent Instructional Designer to join our growing team in our Worcester, MA office.

The Senior Talent Instructional Designer is responsible for creating and customizing content for the enterprise. The ideal candidate will have experience creating business-aligned innovative collateral for all delivery methods, including digital and classroom. He/she will perform needs assessments to identify and develop micro-learnings, leadership development content and instructional materials. In addition, this person will oversee learning analytics and our evaluation and reinforcement strategy. A high degree of technical competency in Learning Management Systems and developing e-learning courses required. This is a Full-time Exempt role.


  • Manage multiple training design projects and create content for all learning modalities

  • Conduct ongoing customer needs assessments using written surveys, personal interview techniques, 360-degree feedback, and course evaluations

  • Monitor quality control to assure that effective and innovative alternative learning methods are meeting the customers' needs

  • Design and develop script/storyboard/wireframe using multi-media and interactive designs which assure course content integrity

  • Develop and write measurable action-oriented objectives

  • Develop an evaluation strategy and use evaluation tools to measure course effectiveness

  • Leverage analytics to tell a story on learner needs, and effectiveness of our development

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with business matter experts to ensure best learning outcomes for the enterprise

  • Consult with internal customers and external partners/vendors to recommend alternative design and delivery training solutions

  • Apply principles of information design and architecture to organize content and marketing on our eAcademy

  • Develop a reinforcement plan and design content for traditional programs and digital learnings.


  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent

  • 5-10 years' experience in instructional design

  • Experience developing technology-based trainings utilizing a variety of delivery strategies and designing e-learning content using common authoring platforms (i.e. Articulate, Rise, Lectora)

  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to handle many projects simultaneously

  • Good communication and creative/innovative problem-solving skills

  • Ability to express concepts (e.g. business and technical), ideas, opinions and conclusions, so that others understand and can apply knowledge

  • Ability to train and coach in a manner conducive to improving performance.

  • Strong partnering and collaboration across Human Resources and business functions in a complex matrix environment

  • Inclusive approach with an open and curious growth mindset

  • Approaches role as a continuous learner and has a strong commitment in day-to-day work

  • Has an understanding and appreciation of individual differences and works effectively with varied persons and/or groups

  • Proficient with technology including SharePoint, PowerPoint, MS Office Suite

Job Purpose To deliver high quality learning experiences that meet clients' technical, regulatory and safety learning needs through a blended learning approach and support the design and development of learning solutions. Key Accountabilities * Deliver technical training programs to clients through a blended learning approach, such as hands on activities to stimulate real tasks, ensuring that National Grid is effectively providing training in line with external requirements, operational priorities, and best practice. * Support the design and development of cohesive and innovative curriculum and training programs to meet client learning requests. * Liaise with the Business, acting as a technical training advisor for various departments throughout the company to resolve any queries or issues. * Represent technical training as the subject matter expert on various committees to ensure that technical training is represented and understood in the business. * Conduct assessments of training needs associated with the introduction of new equipment, procedures and technology to ensure that National Grid incorporates best practice into learning methods and programs. * Participate as a subject matter expert during the modification and creation of new technical training programs by the design and development areas of learning and Development. * Keep up to date on training developments to ensure that innovation and latest learning requirements and ideas are incorporated into National Grids technical training programs. * Define, create and deliver training programs such as preparing lesson plans and developing instructor materials and assessments to meet the learning and development needs of the business. Qualifications * A minimum of 5-7 years of Community Involvement with First Responder activites and programs experience * Knowledge of Gas Maintenance and Construction preferred - Gas Field Operations experience a plus. * Proven Training experience and Safety subject matter expert preferred. * Supervisory experience and/or advanced degree in a related field is a plus. * Good oral and written communication skills including active listening and presentation skills * Must have strong interpersonal skills, be able to perform in a team environment, collaborate with others, handle multiple projects, and meet deadlines. * Strong knowledge of technical and safety policies / procedures/ standards and regulatory requirements. * Understanding of training and development principles and adult learning theory * Working knowledge of personal computers and various business related software.
