System Engineer is responsible for leading detailed system design and specification development for the TMDS Office products.

Work with the Software teams to develop system designs including data acquisition, signal conditioning, power control, ICDs for system level communications, vehicle autonomy, electrification, cyber security, and networks.

Develop engineering documentation up to Level II processes and maintain existing documentation. Work with stakeholders within and out of the organization to meet Corporate goals and objectives as well as meeting the contractual requirements of any assigned project.

This position requires someone who is skilled at taking preliminary custom (internal or external) specifications and creating a "better than expected" end product.


  • Develop Program/System requirements based on customer specifications

  • Develop System/Sub-System requirements based on customer specifications

  • Provide inputs to project schedules while ensuring system engineering processes are being executed as defined

  • Analyze and estimate feasibility, effort, time, compatibility with other systems

  • Manages requirements and tracing in requirements management software

  • Suggests and sets priorities within the boundaries of group objectives and timelines, and demonstrates the ability to stay on schedule to meet commitments

  • Takes active role in developing product-level documents such as product specifications, requirement specifications, white papers and use cases

  • Takes active role in developing segment-level documents such as Sub-System requirement specifications, interface control documents and data dictionaries

  • Takes active role in developing and presenting design reviews with customers and government agencies

  • Provide technical assistance by responding to inquiries regarding errors, problems, or questions with the system

  • Considered to be an expert on product line system technical issues, and therefore is expected to own difficult technical problems and drive them to resolution

  • Work independently or with a team to develop solutions that meet project requirements within the program schedule and budget constraints

  • Supports system validation through reviews of validation test scripts, production test procedures, validation test plans, on-site builder/customer validation and technical support

  • Establishes pass/fail criteria for critical functions and tests and participates in executing system validation plans and communicating results

  • Make independent technical contributions in-support of program objectives, as well as interacting with other Wabtec engineers and customers

  • Leads developer and customer technical discussions to clarify and adjust system specification requirements; participates in conference calls and meetings to review development status and issues


  • Candidates possessing a BSEE, BSCS, or similar degree are preferred.

  • Candidates possessing an Associate's Degree in computer science, electronics, or a related field with (3) years of experience in IT systems field will also be considered.

  • Knowledge and experience with real-time software development.

  • A good understanding of Linux and windows compliant operating systems and networking (TCP/IP).

  • Ability to work in a very fast pace dynamic environment with daily adjustments to priorities and time to meet the needs of the organization.

  • Very good general computer skills including the use of analyzers and other data acquisition equipment.

  • Strong debug and troubleshooting skills.

  • Attention to detail; approaches work in a meticulous and thorough manner.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to articulate clearly and concisely.

  • Self-motivated, results-oriented with a clear focus on high quality.

  • Configuration management and change management knowledge

  • 25% travel requirements.

  • Railroad experience a plus.

Business Need / Purpose of Role Weir Oil & Gas utilizes VMWare and Microsoft technologies within their global infrastructure. Weir Oil & Gas has a role for an individual within the team responsible for the management of the Oil & Gas server infrastructure focused upon the virtualized and physical server environments for Windows and Linux to provide a stable platform on which the Weir businesses can support our customers. Provide tier 3 support for Microsoft Windows and VMWare based environment. Problem, Change, Release, Configuration, and Request management. Support for locations in the US, Canada, Australia, UK, and AsiaPac. Support will encompass both office hours and on-call support to 24 x 7 with alert management and operational team members. Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities Objectives: * Drive forward a proactive approach with virtualization based on VMware (where required for the application) in the team to support the business by offering critical support services. The server technology base used is Windows Server 2008R2-2012R2. * Execute and provide input for continuous improvement within the defined ITIL service processes for the support of Oil & Gas infrastructure systems focused upon server and virtualization. Working in a team environment with following component SMEs including, Storage, Network Management, Network Security, Automation, and the Service Desk. * Manage assigned incoming Incident, problem, and change requests, scheduling work to deliver against timescales, and set expectations with requestors, keeping them informed of progress * Analyze, prioritize and solve incidents and problems raised via our internal service desks within the business units based upon established business priorities.
