Position Summary:

The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for specialized information technology areas performing advanced operational, analytical, and/or technical support functions to maintain and improve Server Operating Systems and Server Virtualization for Citizens.

Essential Functions/Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage and monitor the capacity and performance of our physical and virtual server infrastructure.

  • Provision, maintain and monitor the health and performance of the physical server hardware.

  • Deploy and maintain/troubleshoot ESX hosts and VM's to meet business needs.

  • Deploy and maintain/troubleshoot Microsoft Server OS on physical and virtual platforms

  • Collaborate with engineers or software developers to select appropriate design solutions or ensure the compatibility of system components.

  • Ensure solutions are designed to take advantage of the existing assets, integrate them into the existing environment, follow the enterprise architecture, and solve the business problems of the business owner or unit.

  • Serve as liaison between leadership and Enterprise Architecture team on strategic direction and provide input to the Enterprise Architecture team regarding standards and framework enhancements.

  • Streamline server engineering processes for greater efficiency and effectiveness.

Qualifications

Required Jobs Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Information Systems or similar work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university, and/or equivalent technical experience.

  • 8 years VMWare ESX Engineering, Administration and Management

  • Deploy and maintain/troubleshoot ESX (5.5 and newer) hosts and VM's in mid- to large-sized IT environments

  • Deploy and maintain/troubleshoot Microsoft Server OS on physical and virtual platforms (Microsoft Windows Server 2016/2012/2008/2003)

  • 3 years Scripting (ex: PowerShell, Vbscript, Python)

  • Infrastructure deployment and troubleshooting skills, including virtual appliances, server farms, and 3rd party tools

  • Knowledge of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, LAN/WAN, and network integration

  • 5 years Group Policy Objects Management

  • Practical SDLC and Project Management understanding

Preferred Jobs Skills and Experience:

  • Professional IT Certifications, such as: Microsoft MCSE or equivalent

  • Experience with Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, etc)

  • Experience with ITIL or ITSM processes

  • 3 year Linux administration (RedHat, SUSE, CENTOS)

  • 8 years of Active Directory Engineering, Administration and Management

  • 2 Years Cloud Engineering with Azure or AWS

  • 2 Years IaaS, SaaS, PaaS Engineering

  • Security and compliance

Position Overview: In our team, we provide systems engineering support on moderate to complex systems engineering projects and participate in requirements capture; while also developing new requirements based on customer need. You will translate requirements into detailed systems/product specifications. Checks less complex designs for accuracy and compliance with customer and regulatory agency requirements. * Evaluate preliminary engineering and customer requirements to perform, check, and validate hardware and application software design * Analyze equipment to establish operating data, conduct experimental tests, evaluate results, and make recommendations. * Select components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability. * Review vendor capability to support product development, as needed. * Develop test procedures and test plans according to established company procedures. * Provide technical leadership on less complex systems. * Provide technical support to the customer during commissioning of the design of complex systems. * Perform simulation (verification) of Wayside Train Control System software using tools specific to the type of equipment. * Perform factory and field testing (validation) of Wayside Train Control System software; install software per hardware plans; test operation of software, record and analyze results; and provide feedback. * Prepares engineering schedules and budgets in accordance with company estimates and project specifications. * Fulfill special requests from customers such as special distributions, providing designer sketches, and other additional information as requested. Required Knowledge/Skills/Education: * Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field preferred with a minimum of 5-8 years of experience in railway signaling industry. * Proficient using industry specific equipment such as meters, oscilloscope and power supplies. * Proficient using AutoCAD and MicroStation. * Proficient experience using Test Racks. * A consistent track record of leading projects that successfully achieve milestones and complete deliverables.
