As a key member of our Device Development team, the Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for system integration activities across several projects for the development of electronics based medical devices and test equipment/fixtures. This Systems Engineer translates voice of customer and stakeholder needs into system and product requirements, identifies potential hazards and assesses requirements to ensure that the product meets the user/business needs, develops design and process specifications for new hardware and software products, aids in product verification and validation, and provides support in sustaining activities. The expectation for the Systems Engineer is to regularly serve on smaller project core teams, act as a leader of technical excellence, and participate as an agent for continuous improvement within the Systems Engineering function. As such they are expected to help identify tasks/resources to ensure that critical project milestones are met, and systems integration activities are identified and fulfilled.


  • Leads system/product-level feasibility and risks assessments.

  • Facilitates cross-functional knowledge and experiences to promote the understanding and resolution of in-market and product development issues.

  • Responsible for coordination of system-level product development and its integration.

  • Serves as a resource to examine system behavior issues and bring to resolution for on-market products.

  • Identifies opportunities and drives continuous improvement efforts in the development cycle.

  • Applies DFSS best practices on all projects.

  • Works on complex issues where analysis of situation or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.

  • Drives software/electrical project timelines and resource needs for device projects.

  • Performs other duties as they are identified to support cross-functional teams.

  • Minimum BS in SWE, EE, CE, CSE.

  • 3-5yrs of experience with embedded systems, medical devices preferred.

  • 3-5yrs of experience with design for test (DFT).

  • Good Project Management skills.

  • Working knowledge of product development lifecycle.

  • Working knowledge of Medical Device Development Life Cycle and Manufacturing.

  • Design Controls and experience with FDA QSR 21 CFR Part 820 and ISO 13485.

  • Test / characterization of PCBAs.

  • Scripting for automated system testing using Python or similar language.

  • Data analysis, parsing test results, etc.

  • Solid documentation and data collection practices related to medical devices.

  • Report bugs and feedback to drive continuous product improvement.

  • Experience with oscilloscopes, multimeters, function generators, and other test equipment.

  • Experience with ECAD programs such as Altium, MentorGraphics or similar.

  • Generate formal test reports and present them to larger technical audiences.

  • Experience in writing control software (C#/Python) for custom test equipment supporting novel device development.

  • Familiarity with domestic and international regulations and industrial guidance documents (e.g., ISO, FDA guidance and CE Mark requirements).

  • Ability to handle multiple project and priorities with exceptional organizational and time management skills.

  • Recognized for being well organized and self-directed with strong interpersonal skills and with an ability to communicate to people at all levels of the organization and lead with influence.

Guardant Health has launched liquid biopsy-based Guardant360®, Guardant360 CDx and GuardantOMNI® tests for advanced stage cancer patients. These tests fuel development of its LUNAR program, which aims to address the needs of early-stage cancer patients with neoadjuvant and adjuvant treatment selection, cancer survivors with surveillance, asymptomatic individuals eligible for cancer screening and individuals at a higher risk for developing cancer with early detection. You will be part of the LUNAR bioinformatics team working on and with the software that is used in the clinical laboratory to process patient samples and analyze their genomic profiles, helping to prevent recurrence of cancer for cancer survivors based on a simple blood draw. Your role will be to work with Bioinformatics SQA engineers and members of the bioinformatics group to ensure the quality of bioinformatics software used in CLIA, CAP, NYDOH, and FDA regulated environments and the correct installation on production systems. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Work with bioinformatics SQA engineers and members of the bioinformatics group to develop test cases that ensure the quality of bioinformatics software used in CLIA, CAP, NYDOH, and FDA regulated environments. * Participate in requirements and design review meetings to create comprehensive, automated test strategies/plans for bioinformatics software leading to successful implementation and timely project completion. * Work with the algorithm development team to understand functional specifications, identify and design test cases for sequence analysis software including alignment, variant calling, and annotation software. * Work with cross-functional teams, and support integration and regression testing of Bioinformatics software. * Execute complex testing, perform in-depth statistical analysis, and interpret results independently. * Design, create, enhance, and maintain bioinformatics data simulators and automated testing framework to ensure excellent testing coverage. * Provide written documentation and specifications of software products and services. * Provide coaching to other team members for designing test strategies and test cases with strong knowledge of molecular biology, oncology and bioinformatics. * Report, track, and escalate anomalies discovered during testing (All testing phases) and ensure closure on issues. * Perform Impact Analysis for incremental changes and identify the scope of regression / test cycles and execute them as needed. * Minimum with a BS Degree in Bioinformatics or related field * 4+ years of hands on experience with programming and scripting languages such as Python, R, C++, shell and RDBMS (SQL or Oracle) and software dev/QA in Linux environment. * Strong understanding of sequencing data, annotations, and standard bioinformatics tools e.g. samtools, picard, snpEff. * 4+ years of hands on experience in scripting, running, analyzing, and refining automation frameworks for comprehensive and full application testing, including API testing. * 4+ years of experience in verifying algorithms, workflow or data analysis software. * Experience with test case management tools and best practices for scalability and maintainability. * 2+ years of experience in Continuous Integration / Delivery tools such as Jenkins and container runtime tools such as Docker * Excellent organization and people skills with the ability to work across functions to ensure successful integration testing. * Experience in testing bioinformatics software is preferred * Experience working in a regulated environment (CLIA, CAP, NYDOH, and FDA) preferred Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment.
