The Mission Systems Internal Research and Development (IRAD) department is looking for Systems Engineers who are interested transforming the "what-if's" into reality through research and development of new communication technologies and innovations. Opportunities exist to engage in experiencing all elements of the communication design process including system-level trades, communication system architecture and design, performance assessment, and prototyping of engineering concepts. Successful candidates should expect to be immersed in a fast-paced, team-based, and challenging technical environment where an individual with talent and initiative can stand out and thrive.

This position is onsite, in Richardson, TX. This position will require a Top Secret clearance. Candidates with currently active Secret clearance will be considered with expectation to upgraded post-hire. This position is eligible for relocation for qualified candidates.

Senior Systems Engineer - Internal Research & Development (IRAD) (Onsite)

The Senior Systems Engineer will provide support to Collins Aerospace IRAD projects as a contributor to new technologies and innovations that have the potential to be disruptive technologies to our industry and customers we serve. This engineer will work with stakeholders from business development, Mission Systems chief engineering, and discipline to become our next subject matter expert in the expansion of our IRAD communication product lines and services.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Acts as the direct interface to capture operational concepts to be translated into a system architecture and design.

  • Performs functional analysis, trade studies, requirements research and interface definition studies to transform concepts to prototypes or simulation models.

  • Adapts to Value Stream Leaders and Business Development feedback from potential customers.

  • Researches and evaluates investments or changes in technology, resources, procedures, equipment, systems, or other assets to improve the quality of the organization's systems products and services.

  • Performs or supports technical planning, whitepaper generation, modeling and simulation, prototyping and demonstrations.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience.

  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

  • Experience in IPT based organizations

  • Previous experience supporting Agile development concepts

  • Experience with MBSE with SysML language using the Cameo toolset

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in military radios operating in the VLF/LF, HF, U/VHF frequency bands.

  • Experience in the implementation use of 5G communication systems

  • Experience in LOS/BLOS to include SATCOM communication systems

  • Familiar with wired communication interfaces (i.e. IEEE 802.3, ARINC-429, RS-422, MIL-STD-1553, etc.)

  • Experience conducting systems architecture trade studies

  • Exposure to Battle Management Command and Control (BMC2) or Joint All Domain Command and Control (JADC2)

  • Experience using Jira

  • Experience developing patents

  • CAM Experience

Employee Referral Eligible

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
