Boeing Defense, Space, and Security (BDS) is seeking motivated, talented, and experienced System Engineers to join the Missile Weapons Systems (MWS) team in Huntsville, Alabama. There are multiple positions for a wide range of systems engineering roles available. You will be expected to guide the successful completion of aspects of major programs and may function in a project leadership role.

The programs that we support in Huntsville, Alabama include Ground-based Midcourse Defense, precision-guided munitions, and Integrated Air & Missile Defense products (PAC-3, Avenger, ABMD); Missile Defense Agency National Team (Systems Engineering, C2BMC), and Strategic Deterrence Systems (which includes Minuteman ICBM support and guidance system repair). You will be expected to guide the successful completion of aspects of major programs and may function in a project/technical leadership role.
Perform analysis to optimize total system and/or system architecture to solve complex missile defense problems.
Apply interdisciplinary, collaborative approaches to plan, design, develop and verify system solutions.
Define and coordinate system performance requirements and integrate technical parameters.
Define high level functional and performance requirements and verification methods, subsequent analysis, decomposition, and derivation of requirements, allocation of those lower-level requirements to physical and functional architectural elements, and tracking them through design, verification, integration, and operational validation
Develop verification and validation methods, processes, logic, and plans in support of program milestones.
Develop and document electronic and electrical system requirements
Analyze and translate requirements into system architecture, hardware and software designs and interface specifications
Test and validate to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements
Perform analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, survivability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance, product security (cyber security) and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success.
Evaluate systems under various scenarios and architectures to determine and/or optimize overall system mission performance in a framework giving insight into performance
Develop and maintain analysis tools of varied fidelity including modeling and simulation tools to predict performance against evolving threats of current and future missile defense systems
Perform systems analyses of the existing system architecture in conjunction with new technologies and concepts for improvements to be considered for future architectures
Develop, refine and document key algorithm capabilities to support various DoD customers
Conducts analysis of multiple targets discrimination for survivability, vulnerability, and susceptibility into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success.
Model Based Engineering / Systems Engineering Responsibilities May Include:
Development of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools, processes and architectures
Configuration, data and work flow management of program specific MBSE tools and processes
Establishment of protocol / process for integration of engineering tools with MBSE
Examples of current open positions:
Responsible for managing the internal/external interfaces of the GMD system, including overseeing the maintenance of the Interface Description Documents (IDD) to ensure compliance with the parent specification
Responsible for chairing the GMD Industry Interface Control Working Group (ICWG) and co-chairing the GMD Interface Control Working Group (GICWG)
Responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the GMD SI Interfaces Team tasking and for providing status/metrics to leadership
Technical Leadership of Patriot Advanced Capability (PAC-3) seeker development program within a Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Environment.Manage program risks and opportunities along with development of risk mitigation plans and opportunity capture plans. Implementation and maintenance of rigorous engineering process, tools, schedules and metrics
Physical and functional architecture development & analysis. Analyze technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and seeker interfaces at a circuit card level. Technical oversight of verification of requirements and Functional Configuration Audit planning and execution
This position requires an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.).
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Technical Bachelor's degree (A technical degree is defined as any four year degree, or greater, in a mathematic, scientific or information technology field of study).
Minimum of 3 years of experience working both independently and in team environments
3+ years of experience working in systems engineering
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Experience applying and teaching systems engineering processes and principles
Experience/domain knowledge of system architecture, requirements, interface definition, verification, and validation
Experience with complex systems development and integration
Experience modeling or simulating complex systems
Experience with implementation and maintenance of systems engineering tools, schedules and metrics (i.e. Earned value management, DOORs, CAMEO)
Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering
Understanding of statistical analysis, distributions, and sampling
Demonstrated use and knowledge of SysML
Understanding of DoDAF, UAF
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+3 years', Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
