Senior Systems Engineer (Electrical)
About the role:
Boston Scientific is seeking a highly motivated and experienced R&D Systems Engineer.
The successful candidate will provide system level understanding regarding design and development of electronic medical systems.
This candidate will provide technical guidance to an interdisciplinary team of SW/HW/Mechanical professionals from project conception to post realization. Define, analyze and implement system requirements.
Be a part of one of Boston Scientific's Cardiovascular divisions supporting R&D for exciting new products, and business development activities. Work on Medical Electrical Equipment (MEE) development and sustaining efforts. This equipment adheres to industry standards as applicable and often includes a Medical Electrical Equipment console, peripheral accessories (medical and non-medical), and sterilizable and/or disposable single-use medical devices. The MEE and disposable systems often contain a mix of mechanical, electrical, embedded and application SW.
Responsible for providing system level expertise for the design, development, and sustaining of complex Medical Electrical Equipment systems, including sensors, embedded systems, algorithms, hardware, software, and any associated disposable medical devices.
Your responsibilities include:
Defines & implements system requirements, system specifications, input/output processes and working parameters by using systems engineering best practices.
Documents system requirements by writing documents, reports, memos, change requests. Methods used are determined by approved procedures and standards.
Tracks system engineering effort by creating and maintaining records in the approved tracking management tool.
Solves system problems through simulation, mathematical analysis, and/or systems interaction testing/analysis. Provides recommendations for corrective action.
Defines system partitioning (i.e. hardware/software partitioning) and coordinates total system integration.
Directs support personnel and project activities.
Mentors engineers in engineering activities/methodologies and domain knowledge.
Coordinates and/or performs system testing including evaluation, validation & verification activities.
Aid in the Risk Analysis for the project.
Works with key suppliers and external design partners to ensure delivered product meets our provided requirements and quality expectations.
What we're looking for:
BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
5+ years of system engineering experience developing mixed HW/SW systems
Proven experience in leading complex system analysis from concept through commercialization
Experience conducting error/budget analysis and analytical and non-analytical simulations
Experience designing and building high-accuracy, high-reliability systems
Self-motivated with a passion for solving problems
Strong communication skills (verbal & written)
Hands-on approach to problem solving
Familiarity with embedded SW
Medical Device industry experience in design controls with a focus on user needs, intended use, system requirements, system design, system/subsystem interfaces and traceability.
Medical Device systems product development experience
Experience developing embedded systems with mixed digital/analog circuitry
Experience developing embedded systems SW/FW
Knowledge of application security and usability regulations
Familiar with IEC 62304 Medical Device Software Software Life Cycle Processes
Familiar with systems verification/validation including SW test automation
Experience with test impact analyses for SW sustaining efforts
Familiarity with INCOSE Systems Engineering discipline
