National Team-Engineering (NT-E) is MDA's one-stop shop for systems engineering reach-back into the major companies that build the essential elements of the MDS. Systems engineers on the National Team are helping to drive the future systems that will protect the United States, its friends and allies for generations to come.

The national team has an immediate need for a Senior Systems Engineer to perform the following tasks:

  • Participate in a Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) environment to develop system-of-systems requirements via system/component trade studies and analysis.

  • Provide continuity across change notice development teams by assisting in the management and quality of requirements managed within Rational DOORS.

  • Perform as part of a MBSE team within the Missile Defense Agency's (MDA) mission area.

  • Contribute to publishing change notices to the BMD system specification and update of requirements databases, architectural models, interface definitions, and design packages to document, allocate and trace system and element level requirements.

  • Work as member of a multi-discipline team of 5-8 engineers in the execution of these tasks.

  • This position is in Huntsville, AL

Basic Qualifications:

ACTIVE Secret DoD Security Clearance Required to Start

  • Individual must demonstrate a technical background in requirements development and management using DOORS.

  • Must demonstrate ability to think and critically and effectively convey concepts in papers, presentations, and discussions.

  • Individual must possess good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Capable of working both independently and within a small team environment.


Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 9 years of professional experience; or 7 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree. Considered an emerging authority.

You will be working with a small team of approximately 20 other team members, across business lines, to establish Moog in the Huntsville area as the "go to" company for motion control related challenges. As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will have substantial control over the effectiveness of the overall technical solution (architecture, interfaces and control algorithms) developed to support the customers' needs. Major responsibilities can include: Definition and management of system requirements, building physics based models of the system and exercising the models over the entire operational environment, facilitating the other design functions thru the decomposition and allocation of requirements and support the integration and test of the resulting system. The Senior System Engineer will guide the system development through their knowledge of the system as a whole, its operational objectives, the subsystem operation and interfaces, and the technical, financial and schedule constraints. Day-to-Day Responsibilities: 1 Lead the functional analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. Effectively communication these internal design requirement to the other members of the design/project team. 2 Create system level models, design tools and simulations necessary to support trade studies and solution architectures with customers during early business development efforts. 3 Lead the identification and definition of all Verification and Validation approaches for the system or subsystem. 4 Lead the development of subsystem level requirements that are fully traceable to system level requirements. Write specifications to capture these requirements. 5 Lead system or subsystem level integration and test, including any anomaly investigations. 6 Create concise reports and proposal write-ups that describe the design decisions and analysis results. Business Development 1 Lead the preparation of successful proposals. Contributions to include subsystem level architecture, verification and validation approaches, component level design requirements, requirements compliance assessment, cost estimates and technical write-ups. 2 Develop new product designs and architectures through consulting with customers and sales personnel. 3 Support the creation of product platforms for each business unit that reduces the overall recurring cost associated with new product development. Project Management 1 Manage cost accounts as a Cost Account Manager (CAM) or Work Package Manager (WPM) for the system engineering portion of the design tasks. This includes multiple work packages and management to technical requirements, budget allocation and schedule allocation. Engineering Leadership 1 Represent Moog in a manner consistent with its strong technical reputation. 2 Operate as a contributing or lead member of in a team of creative, independent individuals. 3 Maintain and update modeling, sizing and simulation tools required to support each of the business units. 4 Contribute and participate in training seminars on key technologies and design methods for fellow Moog engineers. In order to be successful in this role, you'll need a Bachelor of Science or Masters of Science Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Software or Systems Engineering and 8+ years' of experience in a similarly demanding technical role.
