Job Posting TitleSenior Supplier Quality Engineer
The ChallengeOwn all aspects of global supplier relationships which impact Cost of Quality (COQ) to GE. Measure, prevent, react and enforce processes and procedures to manage suppliers reactively and proactively. This includes initial selection and qualification of suppliers, continuous improvement, development throughout the life-cycle of the supplier, cross functional support for all New Product Introduction (NPI) related programs and triage of issues to permanent solutions.
What you will Do
Initiate and lead the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process. Partner with Technology to identify, understand and abate issues for New Product Introduction (NPI).
Lead and own Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) requirements associated with all NPI parts.
Lead business and technical surveys with Sourcing and Technology teams to access supplier capabilities and make business recommendations for strategic/tactical supplier development and evaluation of new suppliers for NPI.
Identify new manufacturing processes, tools and contacts within the industry including new suppliers, instruments, or processes to further advance the business and improve NPI.
Lead qualification of alternate sources for mitigation of business risk, including expansion of supplier portfolio for NPI, commercial leverage or Transfer of Work (TOW).
Manage supplier certification process and lead all functional participation for supplier launch of new products (NPI).
Train existing and new suppliers on Haier Group Quality systems and procedures to support NPI.
Own all aspects of proactive and reactive quality at assigned suppliers and throughout product lifecycle. This includes quality engineering, qualification of suppliers, continuous improvement and issue resolution.
Lead reactive problem solving through issue definition, containment, identification of root cause and corrective action. Ensure all supplier defects causing manufacturing or consumer issues are driven to permanent resolution.
Champion the use of quality tools, Supplier Composite Scorecard and other data to identify and drive quality projects across all suppliers resulting in the overall improvement of supplier value to GE (delivery, quality, cost).
Lead projects involving process changes, supplier moves and material changes through the GE Change Control Process.
Identify areas for cost reduction across assigned supplier base including internal supplier processes, quality improvements, Variable Cost Productivity (VCP) and material usage.
Utilize LEAN manufacturing concepts to improve supplier processes to deliver on cost savings ideas including reduction of waste and rework.
Work cross-functionally with technology, manufacturing and sourcing leaders to implement continuous improvement projects related to assigned supply base.
Interface with suppliers and manufacturing sites to improve process control and product quality.
Leverage expertise to influence global supplier commodity strategy.
Monitor and resolve supplier process control performance issues by developing robust quality control plans and implementing sustainable corrective actions.
Manage the development of stainless steel appearance standards and corrosion requirements
What you need to Succeed
Minimum 5 years Supply Chain, Quality and/or Technical experience in a manufacturing environment.
Engineering or Technical degree (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) or equivalent technical experience.
Strong background in applying statistical tools for product and process development and control (i.e. Gage R&R, Process Capability, Control Plans, SPC, Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and Design of Experiments(DOE)).
Skilled and experienced with reading and understanding engineering drawings, dimensions and tolerances. Basic understanding of GD&T.
Experienced with problem solving tools and techniques (i.e. 8-D, 5 Whys, 7 Ways, eCAR, Fishbone, Paretto, Six Sigma, PPAP).
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Demonstrated leadership to influence and drive change within a highly matrixed organization.
Fluent computer skills.
Demonstrated project management and organizational skills.
Experience with, and knowledge of, stainless steel including mechanical properties, finishes, corrosion and fabrication processes.
Demonstrated ability to independently develop, manage and implement complex project plans both domestically and globally.
Demonstrated ability to simplify complex information and prepare concise executive summaries.
Prior global work experience & multi-lingual (Chinese / Spanish).
Working knowledge of Supplier Quality systems and processes.
Experience writing/updating technical documentation.
Lean experience or Six Sigma Certification.
