The men and women of Electric Operations ensure the delivery of safe and reliable electric service to our customers. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration and emergency response.

Position Summary

This position is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) subject to collective bargaining.

This is a senior-level engineer job that requires mastery of the substation journey owner's and project engineer duties. The Senior Engineer oversees our alliance engineering firms to lead simple to complex substation engineering and design projects. The candidate should have extensive knowledge of substation engineering concepts, principles, and practices to resolve complex problems with only general direction. Provides technical leadership and coaching to junior engineers. Researches and identifies practical solutions to solve complex problems. Reviews and negotiates engineering and design proposals, ensure adherence to the TD-3330P work procedure, check the accuracy and completeness of the final project scope, review and accept construction drawings, provide engineering support during construction, ensure all job close out duties, such as as-built review meeting, etc., are complete. Also acts as a subject matter expert on select substation equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Resolve problems of complex scope. Serve as a key technical resource within area of specialization. Apply creativity or new approaches to assignments that may be unique. Lead others on technically complex projects. Regularly uses discretion and independent judgment in fulfilling these job functions.

  • Perform the functions of Associate, Journey and Senior level Engineer

  • Manage large highly complex projects and perform engineering analyses, studies, and develop conceptual designs.

  • Develop innovative solutions to solve challenging technical issues.

  • Acts as a lead in root cause analysis and makes recommendations to address local and system-wide problems.

  • Develop technical procedures and contributes to the development of standards, specifications, construction documents, and guidelines.

  • May represent PG&E at external industry associations, committees, trade organizations and other

  • inter-utility groups.

  • Act as an engineering mentor to junior engineers.

  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with our external business partners

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited curriculum in the US or the equivalent from outside the US (proof of accreditation will be required)
  • 8 years of cumulative experience in engineering and design

Desired:

  • Experience in multiple large and complex substation projects without supervision and serve as team leader

  • Experience in completing complex substation assignments with few or no precedents or standards

  • Current California PE license

Position Summary This position is represented by Engineer and Scientists of California (ESC) subject to collective bargaining. This is a journey-level automation engineer position that requires executing routine system automation functional duties with minimal assistance. This position requires a moderate level of training, direction and review of work from more senior engineers and peers. This job is responsible for providing technical system automation engineering for routine projects and maintenance/operation support including, but not limited to: issuing automation requirements, remote terminal unit (RTU) programming, and configure non-protective devices that provide SCADA functions as well as investigating automation equipment failures within the substations. Job Responsibilities * Assigns DNP & IP addresses for various IED substation devices. * Engages and collaborates with vendors on training, product development or product troubleshooting. * Reviews and approves project scope document, RTU settings and other deliverables from contractor engineers. * Assists in the development of new standards and equipment selection for future substation SCADA equipment. * Assists senior engineers while they study and approve new equipment and training before rollout. * Provides guidance to peers and lower level engineers. Qualifications Minimum: * Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited curriculum in the US or the equivalent from outside the US * 3 years of cumulative experience in the field of system automation Desired: * Active CA PE License * Basic knowledge of DNP protocol * Intermediate MS Office skills * Strong oral and written skills * Ability to work in a substation environment, walking on uneven and unpaved surfaces * Intermediate knowledge of GE Harris RTU hardware and ConfigPro software Pg&E Corporation Clovis CA
