Minimum QualificationsI. Master's degree in Civil Engineering AND two (2) years experience as a engineer supervising major bridge and structural design projects;


II. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering AND three (3) years experience as an engineer in major bridge and structural design projects, two (2) of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity as outlined in I.


III. Professional Engineer's license AND three (3) years experience as outlined in II.

1.Possession of a New York State Professional Engineer's license or possession of a Professional Engineer's license issued by a State having reciprocity with New York Professional licensure standards.
2.Possession of a New York State Class D motor vehicle operator's license at time of appointment.
3.Vehicle available for daily use at time of appointment.

General DescriptionThis position is a structural engineering position in the Department of Environmental Services, Bureau of Engineering Services. This position involves responsibility for planning, organizing, and directing major bridge and structural engineering planning, design and construction activities of a wide variety and scope.

General supervision is received from higher level personnel. Performs related work as required.

Typical Work ActivitiesPlans, organizes, and directs major bridge and structural engineering projects;

Manages and administers the City's annual bridge program;

Makes technical decisions in preparing complex bridge and structural engineering analysis and design items;

Plans, designs, and prepares cost estimates and schedules for specific bridge and structural engineering projects including determining scope of work, application of appropriate standards, materials specifications, and construction techniques;

Assists in preparation of the annual budget and assures fiscal control of the approved budget for the bridge and structural engineering unit;

Provides management and supervision of professional, technical and administrative staff, and supervisory personnel;

Provides technical and administrative support for Federal, State and City funded transportation projects;

Conducts field investigations to determine the reasons and responsibility for structural failures;

Consults with engineers, architects, and contractors on a variety of structural engineering issues.

VIEW JOBS 10/13/2019 12:00:00 AM 2020-01-11T00:00 Job Description Job summary: Working out of SNC-Lavalin's client office in Rochester or Binghamton, NY you will be part of a team that works on designing, developing and delivering engineering including; system planning and studies, procurement and construction solutions for high voltage power transmission line and substation projects. As a Civil Structural Engineer in SNC-Lavalin's Engineering Department and reporting to the Director of Engineering Services, you will coordinate your design activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion. What will be your contribution? * Prepare or review and approve civil/structural engineering design of electric power substation (e.g. structures, towers, control house, duct banks, conduits, grading and drainage, access road, driveways, T&D lines, etc.). * Prepare design basis memorandum, engineering notes, project scope/requirements and specifications for equipment and construction works. * Validate and approve engineering calculations, design and construction methods, equipment and material selection, bill of material, project constructability, and schedule. * Ensure conformity and completeness of civil/structural above ground/in ground engineering packages to be issued for construction against project requirements and specifications. * Provide technical support and solving queries during construction, attending site meetings. * Follow and comply with Quality Management System and standard operating procedures. * Work autonomously without direct supervision, in a multi-disciplinary stakeholders' environment. What we are looking for? * Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a recognized institution. * Minimum 7 years' experience with proven track records in civil/structural design. * P.E. licensed (or eligible for registration) preferred. * Field or construction site experience is preferred. * Knowledge of commonly used civil/structural engineering standards and codes (e.g. IBC, ACI, AISC, ASCE, etc.) and solid knowledge of the industry practices required. * Working knowledge or use of commonly used civil/structural engineering software require including Staad Pro, Staad Foundation, Mat 3D, Foundation 3D, RISA 3D. * Excellent verbal, written communication skills required.
