Minimum QualificationsI. Master's degree in Civil Engineering AND two (2) years experience as a engineer supervising major bridge and structural design projects;
II. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering AND three (3) years experience as an engineer in major bridge and structural design projects, two (2) of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity as outlined in I.
III. Professional Engineer's license AND three (3) years experience as outlined in II.
1.Possession of a New York State Professional Engineer's license or possession of a Professional Engineer's license issued by a State having reciprocity with New York Professional licensure standards.
2.Possession of a New York State Class D motor vehicle operator's license at time of appointment.
3.Vehicle available for daily use at time of appointment.
General DescriptionThis position is a structural engineering position in the Department of Environmental Services, Bureau of Engineering Services. This position involves responsibility for planning, organizing, and directing major bridge and structural engineering planning, design and construction activities of a wide variety and scope.
General supervision is received from higher level personnel. Performs related work as required.
Typical Work ActivitiesPlans, organizes, and directs major bridge and structural engineering projects;
Manages and administers the City's annual bridge program;
Makes technical decisions in preparing complex bridge and structural engineering analysis and design items;
Plans, designs, and prepares cost estimates and schedules for specific bridge and structural engineering projects including determining scope of work, application of appropriate standards, materials specifications, and construction techniques;
Assists in preparation of the annual budget and assures fiscal control of the approved budget for the bridge and structural engineering unit;
Provides management and supervision of professional, technical and administrative staff, and supervisory personnel;
Provides technical and administrative support for Federal, State and City funded transportation projects;
Conducts field investigations to determine the reasons and responsibility for structural failures;
Consults with engineers, architects, and contractors on a variety of structural engineering issues.
