McMillen Jacobs Associates San Francisco or Walnut Creek Office is looking for a Senior Structural Design Engineer with 10+ years of experience in Structural Engineering design to assist in the design of large scale public works and transit projects. The successful candidate will have a strong skillset and familiarity with common methods for structural analysis and design of structures using relevant codes and standards. An interest in project management, client relations, and business development is a plus. Applicants must be registered or eligible for registration as a professional engineer (PE) with the California Board of Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists. Candidates with a background in design of tunnels, underground structures, and temporary excavation support systems, are preferred.

Responsibilities

To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Assist in design of tunnels, shafts, and deep foundations, including temporary and permanent support systems.

  • Prepare conceptual and detailed designs, design criteria reports, design reports, drawings, and quality assurance reviews, review of vendor submissions, and perform site inspections.

  • Prepare specifications for a variety of structural engineering tasks involving construction and/or rehabilitation of concrete and steel structures for underground and hydroelectric projects.

  • Leading and managing structural engineering tasks in accordance with scope, schedule, budget and procedures to ensure successful project completion.

  • Provide technical guidance to junior staff members.

  • Provide technical guidance and engineering support for construction activities

  • Participate in business development and proposal preparations.

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering with emphasis in structural engineering.

  • Master's Degree in Structural Engineering preferred.

  • Attitude that is focused on responsiveness and superior client service.

  • Experience with creating and maintaining technical reports.

  • Demonstrated experience interacting with client and owner staff on projects

  • Strong personal organizational and time management skills as well as the ability to prioritize to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to develop and review design drawings, specifications, and technical memoranda

  • Ability to work on multiple projects in a team environment with a variety of staff and project members from other firms.

  • Project management experience and demonstrated experience in leading and mentoring staff.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and strong analytical skills.

  • Willing to travel for short term assignments.

  • Experience in seismic analyses including performance based seismic design.

  • Structural design experience for temporary and permanent ground support, cut and cover structures, retaining walls, water retention structures. Structural design experience with tunnel linings, penstocks,, and shafts is preferred but not required.

  • Construction experience

  • Strong hands-on working knowledge and experience of structural analysis software (SAP2000, STAAD, Plaxis, Strand7, RISA, DeepEx, CivilTech or equivalent).

  • Solid knowledge of relevant design codes and standards.

  • Working knowledge of AutoDesk products including the use of Revit, Navisworks, and AutoCAD.
