The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS), Boeing Space & Launch Engineering is seeking a highly motivated Senior Structural Analyst (Level 5) to perform detailed structural analysis and lead teams to provide solutions to key challenges for the Space Launch System (SLS) program. This position can be staffed in Huntsville, AL or New Orleans, LA.

This position will guide product design and verify structural integrity using analytical methods, finite element models/simulations and other analysis tools throughout the product lifecycle to develop the structural environment, characteristics and performance. Senior analyst will need knowledge of structural analysis and design support activities. Also may include the following: develop test plans and configurations, supports test execution and analyzes/reports test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications. Defines and documents certification and test results to substantiate for customers and regulatory agencies that requirements are satisfied. Supports in-service products by investigating failures and analyzing improvements. Works under general direction and provides leadership and direction to engineering teams and leads integrated analysis projects and teams to provide efficient, robust solutions.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Conducts analysis processes independently, in consultation with other senior engineers, to support loads analyses. Structural analysis includes independent modeling, analysis and simulations using NASTRAN for all structures and phases of flight. Must be proficient in Structural Integrity analysis including stress, fracture and fatigue. Knowledge of loads and dynamics analysis, structural testing and assessment of structural repairs is also desired.

  • Performance of analysis to assure compliance with structural integrity, stability, loads, fracture and fatigue requirements with direction from the Chief Engineer or other Senior Technical Leads.

  • Primary scope of work will cover analysis, test, and certification of space flight hardware designs for NASA's Space Launch System's Core Stage (CS) and Exploration Upper Stage (EUS).

  • Leadership will include tasking and oversight of junior and senior analysts.

  • Lead activities will include selecting and/or developing analysis methods, selecting tools, and serving as technical authority.

  • Analysis may also include production support and resolution of production and assembly issues.

  • Customer contact and coordination will be instrumental.

  • SLS hardware includes cryogenic, pressurized and unpressurized structure, propulsion delivery systems, components, mechanisms and mechanical systems.

  • Some travel may be required, includes the production facility in New Orleans, LA, other design analysis sites, test facilities and suppliers in various states.

Work Authorization:

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility. Access to the facility requires a background investigation by U.S. Government authorities.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree within Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering Discipline.

  • 10+ years of experience using NASTRAN/PATRAN or similar FEM software to perform structural analysis on aircraft or space structures.

  • 10+ years of experience with structural analysis methods and repair principles (e.g., fatigue and corrosion, stress analysis, statics, materials strength, material characteristics, repair techniques, damage tolerance methods used in maintenance programs).

  • Ability to travel 10% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Master's degree or higher in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering discipline preferred.

  • Experience on space, launch vehicle, and/or aircraft programs.

  • Experience in NASA Space programs or a related Space or Defense program.

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation

Boeing Defense, Space and Security, In-Space Vehicle, is seeking a Thermal Analysis Manager (Level K) to support programs across the Enterprise including the Space Launch System (SLS), both the Core Stage (CS), and Exploration Upper Stage (EUS) in Huntsville, Alabama. Position Overview: The Thermal Analysis Manager will lead high-performing teams that are immersed in high non-recurring development projects in both manufacturing, engineering development, analysis and test support. This position will lead approximately 20+ engineers and inspire engineering performance including first-time quality, on-time engineering, affordability and risk/opportunity management. As a member of our team, you will work in collaboration with other Integrated Structural Analysis managers and produce thermal analysis schedules, data products and team metrics. Ideal candidate will have experience with conducting major design reviews, resolution of technical issues during development, risk and opportunity management, disposition of non-conformances during the manufacturing process, managing budgets, and similar duties. This position will report to the Integrated Structural Analysis Senior Manager within the In-Space Flight Systems. Primary Responsibilities: * Review/approve weekly labor hour records and monthly invoices of labor charges from Purchased Labor suppliers. * Maintain appropriate staffing levels to accomplish all commitments while remaining within allowable budget (hiring, reassignments, layoffs). * Conduct individual performance reviews, help establish business goals & objectives, support career development discussions & activities, conduct annual salary reviews. * Plan & track team budget/expenses. * Develop basis of estimates for newly proposed tasks. * Organize commitments for deliverable products to internal & external customers, and ensure team meets those commitments. * Provide input to various regular program performance metrics and status of tasks to program leadership * Represent the Thermal Analysis team at various program reviews. * Support thermal design and analysis SOW across BDS as a representative of In-Space Flight Systems Capability. * Support component environmental qualification testing.
