The position services as the most senior Street Light Electrical Engineer for the District’s 75,000 lightsalong local roads, bridges, alleys, and interstates. The individual will provide technical expertise,leadership, and advice in the coordination, management, and oversight of multiple professionalelectrical engineering assignments. The incumbent oversees the work efforts of a ward-based teaminvolved in electrical engineering and related activities, including street lighting and electrical designwork to ensure work products of high professional quality to enhance the quality of life of Districtresidents and visitors. Looking for well-rounded applicants with the capacity to lead andcollaborate as well as using his or her engineering experience to enhance and improve the unit’sperformance and successfully maintaining a core infrastructure asset. Client is in the middle of aprocuring a contract to convert all streetlights to LED within two years, and this position’s incumbentwill play a pivotal role in overseeing this significant project.Duties and Responsibilities:The incumbent provides overall direction and guidance for the development and administration of full-life cycle needs of the District of Columbia’s streetlights, including system design, expansion,maintenance, and replacement. This includes creating new forms of analysis for the construction of thesystem and leading a team to assist with the system’s maintenance. As the team leader, the employeewill consult with senior level technical representatives from utility companies, federal agencies, andother District of Columbia government agencies. The successful candidate will create and reviseprocedures, criteria, and specifications for results based on these interactions, including performinganalysis and technical evaluation of the design, purchase, installation, and operation of the District’selectrical streetlight system.The Supervisor will be responsible for the management and procurement of contracts and its start toend administration and implementation. This includes invoice and charge order management,communication with consultants and contractors as it relates to the streetlight network and updatingagency leadership as the contract is implemented. The incumbent will also review and develop theinstallation instructions for streetlights systems in the District of Columbia, as well as monitorconstruction and renovation projects to the streetlight system.Qualifications and Education:Candidate must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lowestgrade level (grade 13), or its non-District equivalent, gained from the public or privatesector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped the applicant with theparticular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, includingthorough knowledge of electrical engineering theories, principles, practices and techniques as well aslaws, regulations and standards related to electrical engineering; this also includes experience in trafficengineering and Intelligent Transportation Principles.
