Career That Change Lives
The Senior Statistician is responsible for developing, utilizing, and mentoring statistical methods used within the Surgical Innovations, Tissue Effect Research Group. This position can make a positive impact in device quality and reliability, as the collection and analysis of pertinent data enables design teams to develop more robust products. The Senior Statistician helps to determine insightful visual data analysis and predictive modelling techniques that help engineers both within and outside the Tissue Effect Research Group. This is a hands-on position, with the responsibility for understanding the intricacies of new product development and the challenges faced to offer effective yet pragmatic solutions.
A Day In The Life
Work with teams as the statistical representative to establish new analysis methods and acceptance criteria for a wide variety of situations.
Help teams to setup, run, and analyze complex scientific experiments
Provide statistical consultation and training across a broad range of departments including R&D, Quality, Regulatory, and Manufacturing
Designs, plans and executes biostatistical components of plans for research and development projects that establish the conditions essential for determining safety, efficacy, and marketability of pharmaceutical and/or biological products.
Uses sound statistical methodology to conduct studies relating to the life cycle of the product.
Identify opportunities for process / analysis improvement(s) and independently drive improvement projects.
Approve testing protocols and reports and provide timely feedback with regards to study design, sample size, analysis methods, and study conclusions
Troubleshoot complex analytical issues including use of statistical software (e.g., JMP, Minitab, PASS, and StatXact)
Support data acquisition projects
Utilize statistical methods for assessing measurement studies (e.g., R&R studies)
Work independently and demonstrate a drive for results, creative problem solving, and effective teamwork and communication.
Execute assigned tasks within the project scope, budget and timeline.
Must Have; Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree with 4 years of experience using statistical methods and analysis or an advanced degree with 2 years of experience
Demonstrated proficiency in hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, nonparametric analysis, multi-factor ANOVA, fixed and random effects models, method equivalence, multiple regression, analysis of covariance, and design of experiments (DOE)
Ability to translate technical topics to engineers in a practical manner
Strong working knowledge of statistical programs (preferably Minitab, JMP, StatXact or R)
Ability to effectively work across departments and project teams
Excellent problem-solving skills as well as an ability to adapt quickly to change
Excellent interpersonal skills as well as the ability to successfully interact with a wide variety of personality types Strong desire to lead tangible process improvements
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Nice To Have
Labview, Matlab, R, Python, or programming experience
Database experience (e.g., Oracle, SQL, Access)
Experience using Data Science techniques (e.g., Neural Nets, Partitioning, Nave Bayes, etc.)
Ability to develop training materials with experience in teaching statistics
Knowledge of statistical methods used in manufacturing (e.g., process capability, etc.)
Experience in the development of medical devices
Experience with preclinical or clinical studies
Knowledge of project management
Experience with FDA and ISO medical standards
