Summary of Purpose

The Senior Statistical Modeler is responsible for enabling model informed vaccine clinical development and will develop and apply tools and algorithms using statistical/machine-learning and mechanistic models for integrated model-based analysis of data spanning the responsibilities of Global Biostatistics in Vaccine Clinical Research and Development.

Key accountabilities

• 40% of the time

• Clinical Trials simulation, including in silico modeling, leveraging historical Clinical Trials Data and Real World Evidence plus publications

• 25% of the time

• Translational & Disease Modeling, leveraging pre-clinical, non-clinical, and clinical data

• 20% of the time

• Model the relationship between endpoints, understanding and defining new relevant endpoints in vaccines development

• 15% of the time

• Leverage predictive modelling (e.g. correlate of risk, correlate of protection) during and after the conduct of clinical trials

Context of the job/ Major challenges

An ideal Statistical Modeler is an analytical and creative thinker who is not intimidated by roadblocks and challenges. They understand how to successfully evaluate problems and develop appropriate solutions. Successful Statistical Modelers can also be counted on to perform well under pressure, possessing great focus while completing projects efficiently. They should be able to work well as part of a team, but also carry responsibility for their own work. Statistical Modelers also need to be able to work on multiple projects at a time, with the ability to quickly understand and incorporate new technologies. They will use Historical Clinical Trials data, Real World Data, and literature with Statistical & Mathematical Modeling, leveraging mechanistic & statistical models together with AI/ML to enhance Vaccine Development at Sanofi.

Dimension/Scope

The Statistical Modeler is responsible for supporting GBS teams through all project phases including knowledge transition. They will analyze data-related system integration challenges and propose and implement appropriate solutions. Some travel and interaction with external experts are expected.

Education

Ph.D. in Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or related discipline is required.

Required Experience

• R & SAS programming experience

• General understanding of data collection processes and data quality

• Knowledge of the mathematical foundations of statistical inference and forecasting.

• Demonstrated expertise in the use of:

• statistical/machine learning as well as mechanistic models.

• Bayesian statistics

• Ability to clearly communicate complex technical ideas, regardless of the technical capacity of the audience.

• Strong inter-personal skills and ability to work as part of a team.

• Ability to quickly learn and adapt modeling methods from case studies or other approaches (e.g., publication).

• Experience in vaccine research and development is desirable but not required.
