What you will do-

Stryker's Senior Staff User Interface Designer collaborates with Global Marketing and R&D as part of the New Product Development team, applying user research methodologies and technical design skills to generate insights and concepts that lead to the development of innovative robotically assisted orthopedic surgery applications, databases and websites. User Centered Design techniques are key skills required to determine appropriate user experience, ergonomics, function, aesthetics, quality and safety.

The Senior Staff Interface Designer plays a key role in creating workflows, prototypes, and guidelines for the user interfaces in order to simplify the user interaction and improve efficiency in the operating room. Through close collaboration with engineers, product managers and surgeons, they support user and design research including usability studies, ethnographic field research, user surveys, prototype testing and competitive product analysis. They create storyboards, proof-of-concept mockups, demos and prototypes of Stryker applications and features and collaborate in the definition of user interface design standards for Stryker applications to optimize ease-of-use and achieve an integrated and consistent look and feel.

What you need-

Successful candidates should have the technical and management skills to lead the team through the empathic design process from insight gathering to concept ideation and development. Merging an understanding of human and business needs, this role is expected to create high quality design solutions that can be commercialized. Our strongest candidates will demonstrate design leadership potential, mentor those around them and have the capability to act as a user interface design subject matter expert within the business.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree is required (degrees in industrial design, visual arts, or graphic design are strongly preferred)

  • 6+ years of experience required (experience within software application design / development is strongly preferred)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Adobe XD, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Protopie and other graphic design tools

  • Creative approach to problem solving, innovation and issue resolution

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate actively and proactively with others in a cross-functional team

  • Good (written and oral) communication skills

  • Self-motivated and self-directed

  • Ability to work under tight time constraints

This job may be performed remotely from anywhere in the United States, except that this job may not be filled or performed in Colorado.

Responsibilities: * Identifies design problems and devises elegant solutions utilizing a user-centered approach by rapidly testing and iterating designs. * Demonstrates a proficiency in defining information architecture and interaction design for several complex software and web applications. * Translates concepts into high-fidelity visuals and UIs, creating site maps, wireframes, user flows, and prototypes to analyze the results and infer actionable insights. * Delivers excellent user-centered design skills and expert understanding of usability standards (font sizes, color schemes, color contrast, intuitive layout, icon design and information flow, etc.) * Collaborates with other designers, product owners and engineers to complete the information architecture, content strategy and interface development processes. * Performs competitive analysis, user research, behavioral specifications and personas creation for new and existing projects. * Ensures a consistent, unified user experience across all platforms, basing decisions on industry-standard methodologies, user research, visual patterns and style guides. * Drives decision-making around design pattern libraries based on professional knowledge and understanding of usability issues and best practices. * Frequently presents design concepts and deliverables to the project team, as well as internal and external stakeholders. * Leads multiple projects to completion, considering the full context of the user experience, including business challenges, user needs and technological capabilities. * Ability to effectively communicate concepts and detailed solutions, both verbally and visually with other team members and stakeholders. * Asks smart questions, takes risks and champions creative ideas with a problem solving mindset. Qualifications: Demonstrates a strong portfolio that showcases aesthetic design and includes a range of interactive samples. 5+ years of user experience and/or interaction design experience. 5+ years designing for web, mobile, and different types of applications. BA/ BS in Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field or equivalent work experience. Proficiency in standard UX software such as Figma, Sketch, InVision, XD, or other design, wire-framing and prototyping tools. Proficiency with other designing software like Adobe Creative Suite Up-to-date with the latest UX/UI trends, techniques, and technologies. Deep and broad knowledge of human factors principles and research strategies. Storytelling and other narratives to create deep empathy for customers and their needs Ability to plan and design projects with either very minimal or very specific direction. Ability to design wireframes and prototypes that reflect the insights gained from UX research. Understanding of basic front-end languages: HTML5, CSS3, and Javascript. Should be receptive to receiving feedback and constructive criticism. A passion for the water, whether in boating or watersport activities a plus.
