About the Team

The Engineering Operations and Strategy (EOS) team is a group of Product Managers, TPMs and Operations staff responsible for driving key initiatives across Coupang's tech organization. Our programs involve some of the most difficult and critical problems facing the company. From scalability of core infrastructure to solving complex data issues to ensuring compliance with strict regulations, our team is deeply involved across the business. Our globally distributed team works closely with each other to drive the highest priority cross functional projects set by Coupang's leadership team.

We are looking for an experienced and passionate Technical Program Manager who, as an EOS team member, drives critical initiatives in partnership with the Infrastructure Platform organization. This Platform team is responsible for Coupang's Technology Infrastructure and is on a mission to build and manage highly scalable, reliable, and secure infrastructure to support the wide variety of Coupang products and services. The Platform organization consists of Cloud Compute Infrastructure, Storage Platform, Messaging & Streaming Platform, SRE and Developer Platform. We are building the next-generation infrastructure to keep up with the hypergrowth of the business for the coming years.

About the Role

You will be a key member of the EOS team. Now and for the foreseeable future, a large percent of the company's engineering roadmap is dedicated to projects and programs owned by the platform team to improve reliability and scalability of those platforms. Thus, this position will be both challenging as well as a great opportunity to make a huge impact on the future success of the company. This team has ownership of defining project scope and driving delivery & execution. They will be deeply involved in cross-team technical architecture and can take on a role in system design. They will also constantly be meeting with tech customer across the business to better understand what the platform team needs to accomplish next to unlock the potential of Coupang's eng org. You will be managing a team that is a catalyst that brings order to the chaos of some of the most critical programs at Coupang.

What will you do:

• Partner with the VP of infrastructure engineering to plan and execute program strategy

• Strong functional & technical system design ability

• Able to dive deep into existing platform limitations and to consider those findings when thinking through the big problems of scalability and reliability faced by users of Coupang's infra platform.

• Develop solutions to improve productivity & efficiency for Coupang's tech org

• Strong blend of technical, business, and program management experience that enables clear and consistent communication across teams, project execution and great customer reach.

• Own, manage and deliver multiple large scale, complex programs across organizations with ease of simplicity, taking teams along to the path of success.

• Strong problem-solving skills, analytical capabilities, and attention to detail

• Strong cultural change management experience

• The team is based in both Seoul and Seattle so you'll need to be flexible in your working schedule to accommodate evening hours as needed

• Some travel (Once per quarter) to either Seoul, Mountain View or other office locations will be required

Basic Qualifications:

• Minimum 10 years of experience as an Engineering Program Manager and designing large-scale or complex technical initiatives on shared infrastructure platforms
• 5+ Years in building and improving common platforms including AWS cloud products, CI/CD tooling (Github, Circle CI, JFrog, EKS), messaging (Kafka), and storage (Redis, Cassandra, Aurora, MySQL)
• Someone looking to make a large impact in their next role

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with scalable distributed systems

• Strong analytical and problem solving abilities

• Excellent cross-group collaboration, outstanding verbal and written communication skills

Pay & Benefits

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. At Coupang, your base pay is one part of your total compensation.

The base pay for this position ranges from $171,000/year in our lowest geographic market to $351,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
