Maxar is currently seeking a Software Systems Engineer (SSE) to join our Systems Engineering Team. In this role, you will support our Power Propulsion Element (PPE) program, Maxar's agile development program providing the Bus for the NASA Gateway program. As a Software Systems Engineer the successful candidate must be technical deep in software development, including software verification and validation, and is expected to cover the program lifecycle through launch and on orbit operations.
The SSE will interface between the Software organization, Systems Engineering, Subsystems Engineers (Thermal, Power, Electrical, etc), System Integration and Test, the Program Office, and the customer. Interfaces inside the software organization include Ground Software, Dynamics and Controls, Flight Software, Simulations Software, Hardware Testbed and Avionics Emulators, and Software Verification and Validation. We are seeking an experienced candidate with a proven track record of working independently in a fast-paced environment and whose work ethic reflects action and problem solving. The successful candidate must function in an ambiguous environment with a focused intention to eliminate ambiguity with properly vetted solutions.
This role will be performed in our Palo Alto, California or our Westminster Colorado facility.
Responsibilities:
Manage the allocation and derivation of system level requirements to software elements
Responsible for the derivation of software behavior from top level System CONOPs
Responsible for managing the software architecture and ensuring it meets contractual functional intent
Act as the systems owner in the design and development of the software solution
Responsible for the software V&V Plan and execution across all software teams
Responsible for documentation deliverables for software teams
Responsible for long term architecture across programs and product lines to optimize reuse of requirements, architecture, and test
Manage technical dependencies on customer, systems, subsystems and coordinate collaboration across individuals and teams as appropriate
Partner with engineering leads to capture & manage technical risks including contributor & stakeholder risk management
Coordinate downstream internal customer's dependencies on Software
Manage technical subcontractor(s) or coordinate closely with leads to manage, as appropriate
Interface appropriately with PMO, Systems Engineer, Master Scheduler, and Customer
Recognize and manage scope creep from Systems Engineering, PMO, or Customer
Continue to foster and grow customer relationship
Provide and/or contribute to Software program documentation as needed, including distribution, shares, organization, etc.
Contribute to and participate in Gate Reviews
Responsible for authoring and delivering software program plans
Minimum Requirements:
Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
Bachelor's degree Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, related field, or equivalent experience
Experience executing on an agile team
Minimum of 8 years of total experience
Minimum of 4 (subset of total experience) years of technical management and leadership overseeing complex development efforts (ie: aerospace, defense systems).
Experience with NASA, DoD or FAA Program Management, Software Engineering, or Systems Engineering standards
Systems Engineering experience across multiple interacting hardware and software subsystems
Preferred Qualifications:
Agile Scrum Master or Product Owner expertise
MS degree or PhD in a special field of Engineering or Science
Experience with satellites and satellite industry, including government civil or defense and intelligence programs
Experience with software development standards and development methodologies per NASA NPR 7150
Dynamic Controls Analysis (DCA) experience
Experience in agile development methodologies
Familiarity with embedded flight code design
Expert with extensive practical and theoretical experience in software modeling, simulation, system architectures
Experience in space-based imaging technologies and mission operations.
Professional written, verbal, presentation, and executive communication skills

Our salary ranges are market-driven and set to allow for flexibility. Individual pay will be competitive based on a candidate's unique set of knowledge, skills, and geographic diversity, with earnings potential commensurate with experience. The range for this position is:
$137,000.00 - $229,000.00 annually.
Additionally, this position is incentive eligible with a target based on contribution, company performance, and/or individual results achieved; the specific incentive plan and target amount will be determined based on the role and breadth of contributions.
