Job Title: Senior Staff Software Engineer

Locations: San Diego, CA, Santa Clara, CA, or Chicago, IL

As a Sr. Staff Software Engineer you will play a critical role in Web Interfaces Engineering group. We're looking for team-oriented problem solvers, long term architecture minded, excellent communicator, deep expertise in all levels of web architecture with a passion to lead and grow with technologies and teams. You'll also work cross functionally to deliver innovative software design and solutions to both internal and external developers and customers with technical excellences.

  • Architect, design and build highly innovative interactive cloud/web-based high performant applications with high scalability and quality

  • Design and architect tools, libraries, and frameworks with long term platform mindset thinking for high modularity, extensibility, configurability and maintainability

  • Lead and coordinate work cross functionally to improve architecture, developing process and mentoring junior members in the team

  • Explorer and evaluate new technology and innovation to continuously improve platform capability and functionality

  • Design and deliver outstanding experience for our customers and developers

In order to be successful in this role, we need someone who has:

  • 10+ years of software research and development experience

  • Passion for problem solving, software architect and development

  • Leading edge skills in designing and implementing highly interactive high performant user interfaces with high scalability and quality

  • Solid expertise in data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, design patterns, functional programming paradigm and Cloud/Web technologies and platforms

  • Deep and broad working knowledge with JavaScript libraries such as React, Redux, AngularJS, Bootstrap, Node.js, Vue.js, ES6 and later

  • Deep knowledge of AJAX, JSON, HTML5, XML, CSS3, REST, GraphQL and associated frameworks

  • Experience with Java 8 or a similar OO language

  • Experience with relational databases and SQL

  • Strong written and verbal communication

  • Experience with open source technologies like Linux, Apache/Tomcat and MySQL

  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline

Department Overview The Dispatch Consoles team focuses on a set of products purpose built for mission-critical operation over public safety communication networks. Dispatch Consoles provide a view into the communications system, with ability to monitor multiple communications channels simultaneously. Radio Dispatch operators and 911 call-takers use the Dispatch Console to communicate with first responders in the field and coordinate incident management among police, fire, emergency medical and other agencies. Motorola Dispatch Consoles inter-operate with a wide array of communications technologies including analog and digital radio channels, tone paging, telephone; and also supports auxiliary connections for sensors, I/O controls and additional peripherals devices such as speakers, microphones, and headsets. Dispatch Consoles bring these elements together in a single product designed to present information from these sources in efficient workflows to help first responders perform their duties quickly and accurately. Motorola IP-based Dispatch Consoles enable effective, secure communication over public safety communication networks to keep responders connected and informed when it matters most. Job Description Positions are available for a self-motivated, advanced problem solver Engineer, that has a desire to work with DevOps practices to build CI/CD delivery pipelines and work on the core platform integration with container based services. The position will work with developers, IT staff and QA to frequently deliver high quality Mission Critical software to production systems. Motorola Solutions is looking for candidates with strong interests in: * Developing cutting edge secure digital communication solutions for Public Safety and First Responders * Information Security practices and secure software development methodologies and techniques * Secure protocols, key management, Public Key Infrastructure * Mission critical feature development Candidates are expected to work in a frequently changing team environment utilizing the latest industry standard DevOps practices for developing software, deployment pipelines, and responding to incident management. Responsibilities: * Provide technical expertise on building cloud and on-prem Openshift or Kubernetes solutions technologies * Collaborate with Development team to design and build Platform services through the complete DevOps Process to be used in a scalable, secure production system * Create application platform automation solutions based on containers and container orchestration tools such Openshift, Kubernetes and Ansible automation * Design and build microservices following REST best practices and well-defined APIs * Design and integrate PaaS solutions such as Identity Management, secrets Management and certificate management. * Maintain proper documentation and develop / adhere to git-based configuration management principles. * Build, Test and Operate CI/CD Pipelines to deliver features to production * Automation of manual tasks using scripting * Work with developers to optimize application containers for performance and scale * Investigate and adopt new technologies and tools based on development needs Skills: * Broad understanding of DevOps Tools including source control, continuous integrations, Infrastructure automation, deployment automation and orchestration (Tools such as Concourse CI, Jenkins, Bitbucket, Ansible, Kubernetes, OpenShift or similar toolsets) * Knowledge of Security concepts such as authentication, access control, authorization, and least privilege * Knowledge of Network concepts such as bandwidth, packet loss, latency, caching, etc. * Team software development using Agile/SAFe practices. Experience with SDLC as well as awareness of Agile methodologies * Software virtualization practices and understanding of cloud based solutions * VMware virtual Networking concepts (virtual switches, virtual Ethernet Adapters, VLANs) * Strong Linux skills * Hands-on development experience with Node.js and client side javascript frameworks (Angular, REACT) * Hands-on experience with Python, HTML5, RESTful web services, OpenAPI/Swagger, JSON, and XML * RedHat/OpenShift, Microservices, Kubernetes, Docker, Kafka, Redis * Experience writing SQL queries and connecting to Database backends * Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills * Strong Collaboration skills * Excellent verbal and written communication skills One or more of the following skills: * Scripting Languages (Python, Perl) * C/C++ * Node.js * Javascript * Linux (multiple variants) * Windows development * Network Protocols (TCP/IP, TLS, UDP) * Concurrent Processing, multi-threaded application development Basic Requirements Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline and 2 years of experience; or Master's degree Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
