This is a role well suited to an ambitious professional, looking for the next step in their career. As a Senior Staff Scientist/Collaboration Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Collaborate with leading clinicians and researchers (institutional and non-institutional) on furthering the field of angiographic imaging science by first understanding the clinical needs and then developing solutions to address those needs.

  • Work with clinicians, research, technical, and medical staff, on-site, to support research-related interventional cases. Share clinical workflows to a broader audience within Advanced Therapies (AT) to further procedural knowledge.

  • Work with AT Innovations, R&D (both in Forchheim, Germany), and on-site service personnel to install, learn detailed operation of, and pre-test prototype hardware and software.

  • Work with legal, research, and logistics personnel on (both internally and with academic centers) to develop research agreements that define the required equipment, funding and deliverables for each research project.

  • Track budget, milestones, and deliverables throughout the project. Work with project manager in Forchheim and the site Principal Investigator to define the research protocol for each project.

  • Where applicable, evaluate technical solutions for patentability and secure protection for ideas.

  • Provide written feedback to AT headquarter for each project and support the Principal Investigators in reporting and publishing efforts.

  • Write and present reports to senior management regarding project results and new project ideas from the field.

  • Communicate regularly with other members of the AT Research Collaborations group, other Imaging Modalities Collaborations group (example: MR, CT) via web meetings, site visits, and workshops in both the US and Germany.

  • Present the Company's research topics to potential new collaborators.

  • (Co)-authorship of presentations at national and international conferences

  • Where applicable, work with the regional NAM organization (including Varian Interventional Solutions and Endo-Vascular Robotics) to develop research priorities for strategic partnerships with institutions.

  • Continuously monitor technology landscape and evaluate technologies (tech transfer, start-ups, think tanks etc.) for applicability to angiographic systems

  • Proficient knowledge of protocol development and protocol writing to be compliant to scientific rigor.

  • Experience in evaluating external technologies for applicability to Siemens Healthineers portfolio.

  • Experience with writing patent applications to secure intellectual property for Siemens Healthineers.

  • You have good PC skills (MS Office software like Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook)

  • Experience in programming and medical image processing including AI programming skills is a plus

  • Since you are interacting with international customers, excellent English skills (ideally as native language, spoken and written) are necessary, German language skills and knowledge of other languages is of advantage

  • You have very good presentation skills in the customer environment and you show team orientation, communication skills and customer orientation.

Required skills to have for the success of this role

  • PhD or MD (or foreign degree equivalent) in Engineering, Physics, or a related medical field and at least 5 years of experience in the job offered or in an acceptable alternate occupation

  • Must have experience with the following skills:

  • Working with medical imaging equipment in an environment (either commercial or academic research) that involves frequent interaction with clinicians and other medical staff

  • Experience with industry-academia research collaborations.

  • Technical understanding of medical imaging, especially 2D and 3D imaging on angiographic systems

  • Thorough understanding of clinical workflows in interventional procedures (Cardiology, Interventional and Neuro Radiology, Vascular Surgery). Neuro experience preferred.

  • Proficient knowledge in anatomical vasculature as they relate to interventional -ology (brain, liver, heart etc.)

  • Proficient knowledge of clinical software and hardware applications available on angiographic systems (Siemens Healthineers, Philips, GE, Canon and United Imaging)

  • Proficient knowledge of IQ for image analysis

  • Proficient knowledge related to X-ray dose measurements

  • Experience with other imaging modalities such as CT (preferred), MR and Ultrasound.

  • Experience with grant writing is preferred.

  • Ideally based in Buffalo, NY and able to travel to Canada

  • Willing to travel up to 25-40%
