Position Summary:

Mid to Senior level Mechanical Engineer to support the design of new assemblies (high accuracy/repeatability stages and stable optical mounts) for our metrology tools. The position reports to the Metrology Hardware Engineering Manager. As a member of the new product development team, this engineer will work with systems engineers, optical engineers, and research scientists to develop hardware for our metrology instruments.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The engineer will be responsible for developing hardware and tooling concepts, performing detailed design calculations and analyses, performing detailed design of optical mounts, sub-micron precision adjustment, and positioning mechanisms, assembly, and test of prototype systems, and finalizing the design through product release for current and future metrology instruments. Depending on the size and scope of the project, this work may be done by the engineer alone, or by a small team of engineers and designers.

  • Demonstrated capability with manual machining and fabrication equipment, mill, lathe, welding

  • Proficiency with hand measurement tools

  • Demonstrated capability with stress, deflection and modal analysis using FEA programs

  • Demonstrated capability with the flow and thermal analysis using CFD/FEA programs

  • Ability to architect basic mechatronic systems, select motors, sensors, drive components, etc. based on satisfying system requirements

  • Experience implementing motion control systems

  • Experience with microcontrollers, Arduino, Pi

  • Proficient with accelerometers and spectrum analyzer to quantify and diagnose a vibration

  • Skilled with contact and non-contact measurement types, indicators, cap gages, interferometer, to measure mechanical errors and drifts.

  • Experience delivering high purity gases

  • Basic LabView experience

  • Experience with photo contamination, methods of prevention, and DUV systems

  • Experience designing mechanical systems for very clean environments, semiconductor, biotech, food systems are all applicable.

  • Skill using mathematical modeling software

  • Demonstrated technical depth in concept design of complex mechanical systems

  • Ability to recognize and design simple and elegant structures

  • Ability to justify and quantify performance-based metrics that led to their design decisions

  • Demonstrated ability to create clear reports and documentation

  • Highly collaborative and team-oriented personality with a strong desire to succeed

  • Experience with 3D CAD design and finite element analysis (SolidWorks preferred)

  • Ability to lead small teams of engineers

  • 8+ years' experience working as a mechanical design engineer

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in science or engineering (strong preference for mechanical engineering)

Group/Division The Film and Scatterometry Technology (FaST) Division provides industry leading metrology solutions for worldwide semiconductor IC manufacturers. The FaST Division portfolio of metrology products includes hardware and software solutions for optical film thickness, optical critical dimension (CD), composition, and resistivity measurement systems. The division consists of a global team located in US, Israel, China, and India. Responsibilities Metrology Product Development (1) Determine specifications for metrology equipment subsystems. (2) Design and develop subsystems including Mixed signal PC Boards, system interconnections, AC and DC power supply systems and power budgets, Electro-Optical detectors and components, electro-mechanical control system, test fixtures and equipment. FPGA firmware capability is a plus. (6) Manage projects or portions of projects involving some or all of the above activities Qualifications Masters or PHD in Electronic Engineering, is preffered Several years experience and positive track record developing complex equipment involving measurement and automation sub-systems. Experience with mixed signal electronics, optical detectors, electro-optical components, optical measurement systems, electro-mechanical control systems, data acquisition systems, computer systems, and integration of sub-systems into equipment. Ability to take technical ownership of and make significant technical contributions to the development of key metrology product subsystems used to make precise optical measurements involving lasers, advanced light sources, electro-optical detectors, control of precise moving mechanisms, power distribution, and system interconnections. Excellent oral and written communication and an ability to work productively in a collaborative team environment are essential. Minimum Qualifications Doctorate (Academic) with at least 2 years of experience. OR Master's Level Degree with at least 4 years of experience.
