Your Team, Your Impact

The Optics team builds highly integrated component platforms with high-speed Silicon photonics, transmit and receive amplifiers, controller ASICs with Marvell DSP's. These components are made operational with a highly functional embedded firmware. The team is responsible for design, verification, and validation of these integrated high speed optical components. The team performs system level testing under various operating conditions, and validates the performance of the hardware, firmware and control loops. An engineer in this team will be involved in a full product lifecycle and will carry new products from inception all the way to NPI.

What You Can Expect

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Sr. Staff Mechanical Design Engineer with a proven track record of excellence in optical transceiver design and development. A proven track record will include design of optical transceiver products shipped in high volume. With 5-10 years of hands-on experience in mechanical design, you will play a pivotal role in our development of next-generation coherent optical modules. As a Sr. Staff Mechanical Design Engineer, you will lead design projects, and collaborate with cross-functional teams within Marvell to create industry-leading coherent optical solutions.

  • Manage and oversee the product mechanical design lifecycle from concept to production, ensuring designs meet performance, reliability, and cost objectives.

  • Create detailed mechanical designs, 3D models, and 2D drawings using Solidworks, Pro-E, and/or Autocad.

  • Develop innovative design concepts with optimal form factors and power dissipation.

  • Conduct thorough engineering analysis, simulations, and tests to validate and optimize designs for performance, reliability, and manufacturability.

  • Solid understanding of thermal design

  • Lead and conduct mechanical design reviews, DFM, and DFA. Collaborate with reliability teams on product improvement and DFMEA.

  • Generate detailed assembly instructions, procedures, test fixtures, and assembly tools for module assembly and test.

  • In collaboration with sourcing, establish and maintain key supplier relationships.

  • Willingness to travel to vendors and Far East production lines to work hands-on with engineers, operators and assembly technicians.

  • Positive, can-do attitude with ability to rapidly prototype and iterate when necessary.

  • Collaborate with operations to support existing products.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and 5-10 years of related professional experience.

  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering and 5-10 years of experience preferred

  • A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in mechanical design, preferably in optical transceiver design. Principal level will be considered for exceptional candidates.

  • Familiarity with module optical fiber routing and mating.

  • Proficiency in industry-standard CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, CATIA) and simulation tools.

  • Proven expertise in mechanical design principles, materials science, and manufacturing processes.

  • Strong analytical skills, capable of conducting engineering analysis and simulations to validate design concepts.

  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a track record of delivering innovative and practical solutions.

  • Leadership experience, with the ability to lead design projects and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, to articulate technical concepts and present design proposals.

  • Adept at managing multiple tasks and priorities while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.

  • Strong knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to mechanical design and reliability

Expected Base Pay Range (USD)

121,840 - 182,500, $ per annum

The successful candidate's starting base pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location and market conditions. The expected base pay range for this role may be modified based on market conditions.
