Senior Staff Cost Accountant

Position Summary: Seeking a Senior Staff Cost Accountant to provide financial leadership and support to the plants in East Walpole and West Groton, Massachusetts. This role will partner with the on-site Operations teams and analyze operating results while ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the cost accounting and perpetual inventory systems. The Senior Accountant will report to the Regional Controller, Northeast and will be part of a team that supports a group of plants in NY and MA. This role will be based in East Walpole, MA.

Key Responsibilities:

• Partner with Operations Management to provide analysis and reporting that will drive operational excellence.

• Ensure the integrity of the cost accounting and perpetual inventory systems through thorough review, account reconciliations, and reporting.

• Provide leadership in the monthly closing process, including journal entries, allocations of operating expenses, preparation of reports and analysis of manufacturing variances.

• Provide analysis of inventory adjustments, manage accounting entries for inventory transfers between sites, and support physical inventory counts.

• Support the general ledger reconciliation process. Ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled timely along with proposed corrective actions.

• Prepare weekly/monthly sales & operational reports for plant management including sales, yield, expenses, variances to plan, profitability, inventory, and energy.

• Develop ways to improve the level of service and value to plant management and controller.

• Identify cost savings opportunities and provide support in analysis and execution.

• Support year-end audit and Annual Operating Plan processes.

• Analyze projects and make recommendations for acceptance, modification, or rejection.

• Lead and conduct special analytical projects as needed.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance

• 5+ years experience, preferably cost accounting in manufacturing

• Strong Excel skills

• Experience with Oracle and PowerBI are a plus

• Strong financial acumen, including GAAP knowledge and financial statement analytics

• Ability to make logical assumptions, identify risks and opportunities, and highlight performance drivers/trends

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Self-motivated and independent thinker who is goal oriented and has an innate curiosity to learn

• Ability to organize workload and perform tasks effectively with minimal supervision.
