About the Job

The Senior Accountant has a thorough understanding of GAAP and experience with general ledger (GL), variance reports, preparation for external audit, banking activities, month/year-end closing duties and solid Excel and accounting software proficiency.

Job Qualifications

  • BS in Accounting or equivalent from an accredited university preferred.
  • 3-6 years of progressive accounting experience and responsibilities as it relates to the job responsibilities.
  • Strong full cycle accounting and analytical skills required.
  • Nonprofit organization experience highly desired.
  • Public accounting audit experience a plus.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Knowledgeable in GAAP; 2 CFR part 200 Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards.
  • Experience with MS Dynamics SL is a plus
  • Experience with federal funds, grants, and functional expense reporting as well as requirements for reportable charities.
  • Experience in 990 prep helpful, 401(k) audit and compliance, and indirect cost reporting.
  • Experience with allocation of costs and expenses to reportable units.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Compiles and analyzes financial information and prepares general ledger entries. Analyze financial information detailing assets, liabilities and capital.
  • Monitor restricted and unrestricted contributions and reconcile with fundraising department.
  • Assist with accounting activities and reporting for non-profit organizations that the agency provides services for
  • Prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize current and projected company financial position.
  • Assist with banking activities such as setting up new accounts, banking fees, positive pay exceptions, adding new signatures, bank reconciliation items etc.
  • Back-up month-end duties assigned to other accounting team members.
  • Assists in preparation of monthly management reports and accompanying schedules, worksheets and narratives, including "Budget vs. Actual" variance reports. Assist in providing follow-up and documentation of significant variances.
  • Assists with completion of the quarterly and annual bank compliance filings; preparation of assigned Quarterly and Annual Financial Statements.
  • Assists with annual external financial audit and tax compliance.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulatory guidance and internal policies & procedures.
