A Day in the Life of a Senior Staff Accountant:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining accounting records and ensuring the timely, accurate and complete reporting of financial data.

Responsibilities

Monthly General Ledger Close:

  • Enter monthly journal entries to accounting system for complex companies and review for accuracy journal entries posted by staff accountant.

  • Review journal entries propose by staff accountant to adjust books for accuracy and completeness. Complete bank reconciliations for complex companies.

  • Prepare and complete account analysis of complex companies as required to evaluate each balance sheet and significant revenue and expense account status

  • Maintenance of the fixed asset system.

  • Prepare necessary reports required as part of quarterly/annual financial report for State regulatory agencies

  • Prepare and submit for management review monthly State required claim submission report

  • Perform monthly credentialing audits of new companies, as required.

  • Other projects as assigned.

  • Assist with financial audit

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Preparation of Financial Statements

  • Prepare necessary reports required as part of quarterly/annual financial report for State regulatory agencies

Other:

  • Prepare and submit for management review monthly State required claim submission report

  • Perform monthly credentialing audits of new companies, as required.

  • Other projects as assigned.

  • Assist with financial audit

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

What you can bring to Meridian:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration is required.

  • 5+ years' experience in Accounting is required. Experience in healthcare or managed care accounting is preferred.

  • Experience using PC based software packages, including spreadsheets and word processing is required.

  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and statutory accounting principles

The Trust Fund Accounting Section is a highly complex work area responsible for all of the financial accounting for the Unemployment Insurance program. This position will analyze on-going program operations and recommend modifications of policies and procedures to achieve greater efficiency and effectiveness. There are two positions available: Federal Programs Position Description Cash Management Position Description Required Education and Experience Education Possession of a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester (36 term) credits in accounting. Experience Three years of professional experience performing or auditing the systematic classification and evaluation of accounting data and the preparation of related financial and managerial reports, including one year equivalent to an Accountant P11. Alternate Education and Experience Possession of a Certified Public Accountant certification (CPA) may be substituted for one year of Accountant P11 experience. OR Possession of a Certified Management Accountant certification (CMA) may be substituted for six months of Accountant P11 experience.
