This position is responsible for high data integrity and customer record completeness by running quarterly comparison reports against the general ledger. Performs various other tasks relating to Accounting division functions, and provides effective communication regarding billing/accounts receivable issues with customers and various departments within the company.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Oversees monthly general ledger closings and responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the general ledger. Maintains the integrity of the accounting systems, financial reports and accounting records

  • Performs financial analysis and reconciliation of accounts. Prepares journal entries, reports, schedules and analyses for reporting requirements set forth by management

  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining prudent financial and accounting policies, procedures and practices, including strong internal controls to safeguard the assets of the organization. Provides day to day support including identifying solutions for fiscal problem resolution, articulating fiscal policies, procedures, practices and results and championing sound, reasonable practices and controls

  • Responds promptly and accurately to all inquiries related to area of responsibility. Ensures the day to day operations of the department are running properly and provides ad hoc reports when requested. Performs other related duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Accounting or closely related field of study

  • 1-2 years of direct general ledger experience with demonstrated experience working with medium sized accounting systems. Great Plains or Intacct experience preferred

  • Strong ability to prepare financial schedules and reports in a clear, concise and logical manner and in accordance with organizational requirements

  • Strong knowledge of personal computers that includes spreadsheet, data management and word processing applications

  • Strong analytical ability to analyze and comprehend financial statements, reports and spreadsheets. Ability to analyze and conceptualize financial concepts, while able to work at a detailed level

  • Effective interpersonal skills to communicate with various levels of management, staff and external regulatory agencies and consultants and able to work in a team environment

  • Demonstrated ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and to adapt to changes in a dynamic environment, including working with confidential information

  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to work independently without constant supervision, to handle multiple assignments while meeting assigned deadlines and exhibits strong decision making capabilities

A Junior Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting with General Books (General Ledger) functions. Specifically, you would be responsible for the following: * Prepares and posts journal entries and assists in month-end closing. * Performs monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts including but not limited to room packages and maintenance of gift certificate logs. * Process credit card refunds and post credit card advance deposits and NET REZ deposits. * Assist Director of Finance with updating all Service Agreements and Certificates of Insurance. * Assist Assistant Director of Finance with ensuring that the internal control questionnaire is up to date. * Responsible for cash over/short tracking and notifications. * Posts daily income journals to the General Ledger. * Assists with monthly house bank audits, monthly Upgrade to Paradise incentive and quarterly safety deposit audits. * Responsible for maintenance of all general books (general ledger) files and storage retention. * Responds to telephone inquiries from guests and assists with researching general ledger inquiries from other departments. * Assist, as needed, with task force duties at other Hawaii properties. What are we looking for? EDUCATION Four-year degree required, preferably Accounting or Finance. CPA/CMA/MBA desirable. EXPERIENCE Minimum one year Accounting experience preferred. Hotel experience preferred. LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES CPR certification and/or First Aid training preferred. GROOMING All team members must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance (specific standards available). OTHER Ability to speak another language in addition to English is preferred, with Japanese being the most desirable. SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. * Ability to access and accurately input information into a computer using various computer software such as but not limited to $$ontheNet, OnQ (Property Management System), PeopleSoft, Delphi, FMS, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. * Ability to operate a 10-key calculator. * Ability to accurately input/type 45 wpm. * Ability to correspond to customers and guest via electronic mail (email) using company provided software (currently Microsoft Outlook Web Access) with proper grammar. * Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language sufficient to communicate with employees, staff, guests and customers and to perform all essential job functions. * Ability to grasp, lift and/or carry a maximum of 25 lbs. * Ability to lift, bend, stoop, walk, push/pull to retrieve and file various binders and files at levels up to 6 feet high. * Ability to sit and work continuously for extended periods of time * Ability to effectively deal with customer and employee concerns in a friendly and positive manner.
