Job Summary:

The GL Accountant, plays a critical role in safeguarding the organization's financial health and driving strategic decision-making. You will be a highly collaborative and results-oriented professional responsible for a comprehensive range of accounting tasks. This includes maintaining meticulous financial records, generating accurate financial statements, streamlining accounts payable and receivable processes, and actively supporting tax filing and audits. Beyond core accounting duties, you will partner closely with the Controller to analyze financial data, identify trends, and generate insights to support informed business decisions. This position demands a strong working knowledge of accounting principles, exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, a meticulous eye for detail, and a proactive approach.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Performs general cost accounting and other related duties for the organization.

  • Prepares monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.

  • Maintains the general ledger.

  • Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books.

  • Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.

  • Reconciles cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts; manages accounts receivable collections.

  • Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.

  • Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.

  • Files tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.

  • Coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software systems; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software.

  • Manages the purchasing and invoicing system.

  • Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Financial Statement Preparation: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.

  • Bank Reconciliation: Reconcile bank accounts monthly, verify deposits, and address bank inquiries.

  • Tax Preparation: Assist with preparing and filing tax forms for federal, state, and local government agencies.

  • Internal Controls: Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard financial assets and ensure compliance with accounting standards.

  • Accounting Software: Manage and maintain the accounting software system, recommend and implement software updates, and coordinate with vendors for support.

  • Purchasing and Invoicing: Oversee the purchasing and invoicing system, ensuring efficient and accurate processing.

  • Audits: Assist external auditors during annual audits by gathering necessary information and documentation.

  • Staying Current: Continuously update knowledge of accounting practices and procedures, including adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Advanced user of Intacct, our cloud-based accounting software.

  • Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.

  • Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.

  • Ability to correctly prepare tax reports.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, or related field, required.

  • At least three years of related experience required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
