As a Firmware Engineer at Micron Technology, Inc., you will build groundbreaking high-performance controller firmware for volatile and non-volatile memory systems. You will assist in the evaluation, creation, build, bench testing, debugging, and failure analyzes of firmware for new high-performance memory controllers and Solid State Drives (SSD) that will improve performance, while reducing power, latency and SoC (System on Chip) complexity for the target sectors. You can expect to partner multi-disciplinary Engineers seek multi-functional product development issues. You will triage failures, file bug reports, and help the development teams with isolating issues.

Experience / Skills:

  • In depth knowledge and extensive experience with embedded firmware development

  • Expertise in the use of scripting languages, programming tools and environments

  • Extensive experience programming in Python

  • Experience in the storage industry in SSD, HDD, storage systems, or a related technology

  • Understanding of storage interfaces including ideally PCIe/NVMe, SATA, or SAS

  • Experience with NAND flash and other non-volatile storage

  • Ability to work independently with a minimum of day-to-day supervision

  • Experience with team leadership and/or supervising junior engineers and technicians

  • Ability to work in a multi-functional team and under the pressure of multiple priorities

Requirements:

  • BSEE or other technical degree required; MSEE preferred
  • 6+ years industry experience

The Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act requires that Micron Technology provide the compensation range offered for this position if performed in Colorado. The base salary range for this position in Colorado is $91,000 to $196,000.

There is tremendous growth in Solid State Drives (SSDs) as Micron's product offerings expand to meet the performance and capability requirements required across multiple business segments! To support Micron's SSD programs and customers, the Failure Analysis (FA) process must advance in kind by way of a continual expansion of technical knowledge, novel fault isolation techniques, and debug expertise. As a Global Quality (GQ) Non Volatile Memory Quality & Reliability Assurance (NVMQRA) SSD Returned Material Authorization (RMA) FA Senior Engineer at Micron Technology, you will be performing system level failure analysis of customer returned products. Through a review of proprietary logs and firmware code, you will strive to identify the source of each customer failure and summarize your analysis. The root cause process will entail working with various engineering groups both within Micron and external SSD controller manufacturers. You will also be required to perform additional hardware drive analysis, correlation activity, and data collection for issues extending beyond firmware-driven root causes as HW/FW interaction is ever present. The ability to distill technical details into an understandable summary is critical. Job Responsibilities * Perform Failure Analysis on SSDs focusing on firmware interaction and root causes * Collaborate with SSD Development groups to resolve issues detected * Develop test methods, scripts, and diagnostic code to isolate and resolve firmware issues * Participate in the recommendation and definition of validation test plans for new SSD products * Provide timely status updates along with concise FA reports to customer-facing teams * Provide product and diagnostic tool training to internal team members Requirements * Master's Degree in Electrical, Computer Engineering, or similar plus three (3) years of system FA experience * Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Computer Engineering, or similar plus five (5) years of system FA experience * Experience with SATA and/or NVMe storage interface protocols within both Windows and Linux environments * Programming knowledge in Python scripting and C, C++ language * In-depth industry experience in HDD, SSD, or Managed NAND firmware design and development is recommended.
