The Senior Specialty Representative acts as the primary customer contact and is responsible for executing marketing strategy and promoting Amgen products as led by the District Manager.

Our Senior Specialty Representatives achieve territory sales by utilizing their background and experience to:

  • Provide current and comprehensive clinical knowledge of Amgen's products and effectively communicate the clinical and economic benefits of the products to medical professionals

  • Perform as a sales leader to achieve territory sales by executing and delivering branded sales messages strategies. This includes: delivering branded sales messages, executing planned programs, scheduling and following-up with medical educational programs, and achieving or exceeding sales targets

  • Utilize internal and external relationships to service and manage accounts which includes: ensuring product access, resolving/triage reimbursement issues, and maintaining product contracts

  • Analyze business effectiveness of sales activities and territory analysis, as well as develop territory plans with the District Manager

  • Have passion for our products and sustain that passion through the entire sales cycle while always building our brand, never losing sight of how we serve patients

  • Partner with other colleagues to share best practices and be in a state of continuous curiosity and learning to help grow as a Senior Specialty Representative

  • Leverage passion for disease state awareness, industry, regulatory and competitive changes to deliver agreed results

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of sales experience


Associate degree and 6 years of sales experience


High school diploma/GED and 8 years of sales experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three or more years of sales experience within pharmaceutical, biotech or medical device industry

  • Product or hospital sales experience in the areas of oncology, nephrology, dermatology, rheumatology, inflammation, cardiology, neurology, endocrinology, hepatology, gastroenterology or infectious diseases; and the diseases and treatments involved with these specialties

  • Local market knowledge

  • A Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or Business Administration

Oncologyscience is complex with need to be expert in multiple tumor types, diseasestates, and palliative care. OSRs need to have knowledge of stagingand possible treatment options and dosing schedules associated withdifferent tumors/diseases, with comprehensive understanding of the impactof those options on the patient. Must understand impact and use ofclinical trials in multiple tumor types/therapies, both in impact onpromoted products and in practice behavior of the account. * Demonstrateability to understand complex account interdependencies in order todevelop both short- and long-term account plans in conjunction with a widearray of stakeholders, proactively working with the account team toeffectively execute the account plan. * Ableto divide a customer base into customer segments and apply the insights toeffectively allocate marketing resources and drive execution of the salesand marketing plans. Need to manage complex customer landscape andjuggle multiple business models – PSAs, academic and community hospitals,community oncology products, IHS, referral networks. * Understandand articulate the impact of various choices in the oncology payerenvironment, including the implications of multiple payers (Medicare PartB vs Part D, DMERC pharmacies, commercial payers). Reps must alsounderstand the available resources for indigent/uninsured, underinsuredpatients as well as patient support programs and foundations (both Merck'sas well as third party resources). * OSRsmust understand and be able to appropriately communicate the billing andreimbursement process for oncology products (process for billing relativeto J Codes and unspecified J Codes) * Abilityto analyze and identify trends in a complex buying environment. Thisincludes the multiple channels of drug distribution, Oncology GPO's,wholesalers and specialty pharmacies. Review and evaluate patternsfor products purchased and prescribed, outpatient vs in-patient infusion,as part of hospital contract, etc. * Collaborateand communicate effectively with extended "in-scope" customerteam to ensure a consistent customer experience across Merck's divisionsand functional areas; ensure integration with the OKAM, ReimbursementManagers, extended Merck sales teams (US Market and Merck Vaccines), andother key stakeholders to share key customer learnings and supportcustomer needs. * OSRsare responsible for the appropriate prioritization, scheduling andengagement of the Reimbursement Associates and Nurse Educators withintheir assigned accounts. Qualifications Education: * Required: BA/BS * Preferred: MBA/MS Required Experience: * Minimum (5) years alone or combined, pharmaceutical Sales/Marketing or Health Science industry, or direct Medical/Clinical experience in an oncology setting? * Documented history of strong performance in a sales/marketing or Oncology clinical role? * Ability to analyze metrics to assess progress against sales/marketing or clinical objectives? * Valid driver's license? * Travel the amount of time the role requires?
